MGM Resorts International (the "Company" or "MGM Resorts") today announced its decision to temporarily suspend operations at its Las Vegas properties until further notice, effective as of Tuesday, March 17th. Casino operations will close on Monday, March 16th, followed by hotel operations.
The following statement was released by Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts: "As the coronavirus pandemic has intensified in the United States over the past week, the people of MGM Resorts have worked to try to find a way to continue delivering high quality hospitality and entertainment experiences for our guests while keeping our employees doing the jobs they love in a safe environment. Welcoming people from around the world is what we do, and our employees have tremendous pride in their work. Despite our commitment to dedicating additional resources for cleaning and promoting good health, while making difficult decisions to close certain aspects of our operations, it is now apparent that this is a public health crisis that requires major collective action if we are to slow its progression.
Accordingly, we will close all of our Las Vegas properties as of Tuesday, March 17th, for the good of our employees, guests and communities. This is a time of uncertainty across our country and the globe and we must all do our part to curtail the spread of this virus. We will plan to reopen our resorts as soon as it safe to do so and we will continue to support our employees, guests, and communities in every way that we can during this period of closure." MGM Resorts will not be taking reservations for arrivals prior to May 1, but please watch www.mgmresorts.com for the latest information. Details on the closing procedures, timelines and other issues related to this announcement will be forthcoming.

Extraordinary. I’m watching ‘The Hangover’ right now.
MGM will be fine, however employees will not. I’m concerned for small businesses, many will probably never recover and close for good.
I heard the INdiana casino employees are getting paid while they are shut down. I think they are part of Caesars.
So MGM might do the same. If they dont pay them they might quit.
Vegas shutting down is starting to scare me
Something has got to be really really bad that we dont know about
If they dont pay them, many might return to Mexico
I guess if their customers can’t figure out the danger of being in huge crowds with unknown people, the people running those operations will have to do it for them.

Dems in the House will be passing bills for trillions in “emergency funding” for the “middle class” now. And with the Fed pumping $700 billion into Wall Street today there is no way the GOP and POTUS won’t agree to one stimulus after another in an election year. This is already several trillion dollar disaster. We are certainly not walking out of this event in a few weeks regardless of how many it kills.
Also applies to National Harbor, outside of DC.

They closed Springfield MA today as well.
“Vegas shutting down is starting to scare me...Something has got to be really really bad that we dont know about”
You already know...you were just hoping you were wrong. Just like the rest of us.
You know what...in doing my part to add to the hysteria of a virus that’s only killed 6,500 worldwide, I’m calling on all businesses, large and small to close down! This includes grocery stores and hospitals!
These weak pathetic temporary closures simply will NOT cut it!
Close everything down immediately! Are we that selfish to ask hospital workers and grocery store clerks to put themselves at risk? If we truly care, we’ll close everything down ASAP!
I’m also calling on our government to declare martial law, imposing strick penalties for any business attempting to stay open!
Also, make these closures permanent! Who knows what other virus is lurking waiting to kill us!
Rough for hourly workers.
Our small-town local casino is in the midst of changing signsthird owner in about 7 1/2 years. Parking lot is hardly ever full. Wonder if it will survive. Hasn’t closed yet, but expect things in the week(s) ahead.
Yeah but my hair wasnt on fire yet.
Its getting close to combusting
I think the industry standard will be paid for the time off. Caesars is leading the way.
Problem is the work mostly for tips people.
Yes something IS really really bad it is called the MEDIA, these businesses cant afford to take a hit !! This whole thing is just getting to be insanity!! I have lived a very long time and this country has gone through MANY, MANY of these illnesses coming from Asia and I have NEVER seen this kind of hysteria!! I am telling all of you this s being PUSHED because of Trump!! Believe whatever you will I have lived through a hell of a lot of these situations and this BS has never happened before!!!
“You know what...in doing my part to add to the hysteria of a virus thats only killed 6,500 worldwide...”
But I hope you’re rightthat this is all overblown BS. I mean I’m really hoping you are right.
Ha ha.
It’s nothing more than hysteria created by our Fake News! Sad people who know the lies these people are capable of, are gladly lapping up their propaganda campaign on this!
To date, only 6,500 people have died from COVID-19, but the way the Fake News is spinning this, you’d think it was the apocalypse! Most of the deaths are elderly or those with some preexisting conditions. And, MOST people recover from this!
As long as Americans give into this media created hysteria, the more the Fake News will push this narrative. Oh yes, and guess who will come to save us? That’s right...THE DEMOCRATS! Watch for it!
Mass hysteria is a truly powerful and frightening thing!
The Media know they are in complete control on this! They are going to ramp up this fear mongering...count on it!
