Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told lawmakers during a House Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday that COVID-19 the disease caused by the novel coronavirus is probably about 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu.
President Trump has often compared COVID-19 to the flu, which affects tens of thousands of Americans each year, in an effort to calm people down, but Fauci clearly wasn't trying to downplay the seriousness of the virus' spread. Fauci is a member of the White House's coronavirus task force.
At the same time, he did clarify that 10 times figure actually brings the new coronavirus' fatality rate lower than official estimates, which hover around 3 percent. The flu has a mortality rate of about 0.1 percent, so, when considering the likelihood that there are many asymptomatic or very mild cases that have gone undiagnosed, Fauci places the new coronavirus' lethality rate at somewhere around 1 percent. While that's a good deal lower than the current data suggests, it still would lead to significant numbers of fatalities, and makes the flu comparisons seem pretty questionable.

Top US health official says the coronavirus is 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu
that 10 times figure actually brings the new coronavirus’ fatality rate lower than official estimates, which hover around 3 percent...
Which means we will ALL LIVE if we get it and we’re under 80 and don’t have another condition, with VERY FEW exceptions.
But let the panicking begin.... :)
technically speaking we probably can not pin point what the exact rate is since it’s different in every country. But I believe it is pretty high.
I think they know this is an extinction level event. They only need to keep us calm for another week or so, by then we’ll all be dead, Dead...DEAD!
Based upon the known cases. Many more unknown because of little testing.
The seasonal flu has a .01% mortality rate.
So much for the ghouls pushing the 3-5% figure
How many in the US are affected and how many have dies so far? Minuscule compared to the deaths from regular flu this season so which is the more virulent?
Cold and Flu season basically ends in April. Its reasonable to expect this to start winding down soon.
We were told two weeks ago to just wait ONE week and all heck would break loose. Well, here we are two weeks later all still alive. I have no doubt in the end the Wu Flu will be a bigger hoax than Russia, Russia, Russia.
But what is impossible to factor in is the number of people with cases so mild they think they have a cold and never see the doctor or get tested.
Read my tagline. About this time last year I got the damn Norovirus. Remember that? Same news stories about cruise ships (I refused to EVER do a cruise ship gig), two schools in town closed. Got a note from the doctor saying I couldn’t return to work until a specified date.
I think numbers and calculations and predictions are not relevant.
Way too much unknown and way too much untested..
You just have to ride the storm.
And for my idiot stalker who tried to claim all was well with the market because of Tuesday..today should show you that is not the case
I finally bought a stock. APT this morning right after the open. So hey...let it ramp back up to in the 20s or 30s..or 40s again.

Meanwhile the regular old flu always kills thousands every single year. Here's a CNN link from 2018, when 80,000 people died of the yearly flu in one year, in the US alone. I can't remember...did we run out of toilet paper then?
https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/26/health/flu-deaths-2017--2018-cdc-bn/index.html
Here's a key quote form the CNN article:
In previous seasons, flu-related deaths have ranged from a low of about 12,000 during the 2011-2012 season to a high of about 56,000 during the 2012-2013.
Regardless of the fatality rate (which I personally don’t believe to be 1% based on a heck of a lot of other reading - it’s likely the 3-5% we HAVE SEEN elsewhere), anyone infected still has a 15-20, “20-something” (also Fauci, about a week ago) chance of “requiring serious medical intervention including hospitalization and potentially ICU (5%)”.
Oh, and the “mild to moderate” cases (80% or so) can be “up to pneumonia”. Guess it’s all semantics as to what “mild to moderate” means, when you’re trying to calm the sheep.
If you guys want to scoff at a basically 1 in 5 chance of winding up in the hospital, likely intubated and possibly in ICU - have at it!
I bought a stock. Magpul. 8~)
Talk to Italy, who went from 3 cases on 2/21 to over 9,700 cases today.
It’s clear a bunch of people here on FR don’t yet understand exponential growth.
Every few years a thousand or more die from heat waves or cold snaps in Europe. Stuff happens. Those fueling the Wu Fu hoax should know better.

It’s far more clear many have not noticed all of us are still alive. Why is that?
I am with you lodi 1000% this is a bigger hoax than Russia, Russia, Russia, my thoughts on this virus are that we have many people walking around with this virus that just think they have a cold very mild symptoms BECAUSE that is what MOST people are experiencing!! It is such a shame that the MSM has been able to bring this to such hysterical levels!!!
