Mormon instinct is to have a year’s supply of food on hand at all times.
What I don’t understand are the gold bugs. Owning gold can get you killed.
Junk silver, on the other hand (U.S. coinage before 1965), is spendable in small amounts to secure food, fuel, etc.
Beck lives inside Fortress Glenn.
My understanding is that you have gold to maintain wealth and you have silver to trade with. Not knowledge, just what I have heard. I assume “Fight Club” rules apply to any gold you have.
I understand what you’re saying.
Nothing wrong with having plenty of food on hand and cash in low denominations and you’re right about junk silver.

Gold is also part of the Mormon folklore. They set up in Utah right around the time of the gold rush, and partially funded their “kingdom” with gold donated by a member who had mines out in California. Then they converted an indian chief whose tribe supposedly controlled some hidden gold mines in the mountains and the legend is that this indian chief told the Mormons the secret location of the mines, but it was lost to history somewhere along the way. Mormon treasure hunters are still out there searching for it to this day.
Here are some gold coins that the Mormons minted for currency back in the Brigham Young era:
