It’s popping up because it wasn’t taken seriously enough two weeks ago and travelers returning to their home countries weren’t quarantined.
The injection of cases into Italy, Japan, Korea, and Iran may now be contained... or not.

Pretty much as you said. This virus is spreading faster than anyone had thought. But there is a silver lining, which is the mortality rate among ages between 15 & 60 is pretty small with proper care.
Amazing only 3 cases in India with 1300 million people, and many international travelers. Indians are either working or doing business in every country with decent economy.
You may want to consider visiting on the Coronavirus live threads, they are continually updated with news and new cases.
And the US is still not taking it seriously.
Some are. A whole town rejected Americans from the cruise ship. I think they are still trying to find a place for them.
The media in the U.S. won’t take it seriously for quite some time. They see their revenue dropping off rapidly as advertisers sense empty malls, etc. So deny, deny, deny.

Trump addressed it today, praising Xi and saying US is doing fine with preparedness/containment. We shall see.

Not confirmed! The symptoms of CV mimic other illnesses so it can go unnoticed for a while.
Good News. Flu season is almost over. Wr have never had a summer flu epidemic. We won’t have one now.
You could be right, because it is not yet a recognized epidemic in some countries. Another factor could be not many Chinese vacation in India or Mexico. I am sailing tomorrow on a cruise to the Bahama’s area and don’t expect many from country of China on ship where it is now an epidemic. And the ship is not allowing anyone who recently visited China, including the staff.
Good news, and the flu shot I had in November may have helped me.
You can not board any cruise ship from US ports if your passport shows travel to affected areas especially China, within last few weeks. So we are taking precautions.
Apparently people can get the disease more than once... Time will tell what that's going to mean.
Mexico is rumored to have some people quarantined.
But South America, Central America, Africa and some other highly desirable travel destinations have no medical infrastructure to speak of. Would they even notice in Africa before people started dropping in the streets?
But its much more fun to watch folks act most irrationally like they have never had a math class.
I received a text from my chinese restaurant.. bless their hearts the fear stricken have stopped eating there. I’m going Wednesday night. They are a hard working, second and third generation group. Now they are paying the price for this.
Good thing that base the Chinese built in the Bahamas is empty.
