There are about 9 million of us living here, and we all can’t be delusional.
Apart from those who live here primarily because of job or family, most New Jerseyans live here because they like it here! New York City is a quick PATH or train ride away — why live there?
The Shore, the Pine Barrens, beautiful countryside, diners, beaches, the nation’s most diverse city, small towns, great scenic highways — does any state pack as much variety into one compact package as New Jersey? Nope.
Here are the 50 best reasons to live in New Jersey, from someone who was born here (Trenton) and has travelled endlessly to every part of the state. This list could have easily included 100 or more items.

Forget that store-bought, grown-in-California, -Mexico, -Peru or wherever produce. Nothing beats a tomato, peach or other fruit or vegetable from a Jersey roadside stand. Scores of family-run stands dot the landscape, and there are an additional 144 community farmers markets in towns across the state. N.J. ranks third nationally in cranberry production, fourth in tomatoes, bell peppers, peaches and cucumbers (cukes? who knew?) and sixth in blueberries. We’re not called the Garden State for nothing.

Having lived in NJ for around 45 years just about every item on the list is a nice place to visit when you live in another state with 1\2 of the property tax and 1\4th of the income tax burden. So move like I did and visit those places. Side note the cowtown rodeo is a nice show to visit but the Corner bar is a dump not worth the visit.

Um, Yup. It’s called New York, which also has cute small towns, beaches, better and more historic cities, mountains, many lakes of various sizes, diners, waterfalls, wineries, Amish, Indian gaming and handicrafts, farm stands, collectible rocks and minerals, more variety of wildlife, skiing, nicer rivers, bigger forests, and actual scenic highways, which I never saw living in NJ.

The taxes and gun laws? >> one of the worst states for taxes and gun laws..you can’t carry unless a superior court judge allows it. You have to take the good with the bad.
But, we have the best food in the nation, the Jersey Shore, Pinelands, and so much more.

Most of what you buy at a road side stand is actually " grown-in-California, -Mexico, -Peru or wherever produce".
That far north the produce does not really come in until the mid to late summer. Which is not when people are buying. They want to buy "farm fresh vegetables" in the spring.
Same thing at the farmer's market. If it seems a bit early for what you are seeing it was trucked in.
oh, yea, we have the best pizza, bagels, burgers, texas weiners, taylor ham, cheese steaks, kielbasa, and much more!
we have the farmers’ market from late May to October...all grown on local farms in New Jersey; starting with radishes and asparagus, then blue berries and mulberries, then the regular summer fair like the best jersey tomatoes, watermelon, potatoes, peaches, beets, kohlrabi, apples then cabbage and cauliflower.
Since nobody else said it, I will: North Jersey should be be a state separate from South Jersey. The northern part is “New York light”. Same accent, attitude, politics, etc.
South Jersey is nothing like the North. We identify with Philly more than anything from upstate. North Jersey folks identify with NY things and would never consider supporting a SJ sports team, shore location, political view etc.
I worked in N. Jersey for 12yrs and my co-workers were all from the North. They might as well have been from NY.
Ok.
I prefer South Jersey. But the whole state has some beautiful areas.
NJ could be perfect, if not for the high taxes and the politics.
But most city folks don’t know what time it is let alone whether its early. Its always available in the store so it must be the right season. Farmers just make that stuff the ripe way. Its kinda like how meat doesn’t come from animals, it comes from the grocery store.

Been here a quarter of a century, and I couldn't agree more with that statement.
NJ is actually a great state. The real problem is politics/government and an electorate that is retarded. Even as a small state,it can easily split north and south.
Was just going to say the same thing - Taylor ham sandwiches (followed closely by gravy fries...)
One of my reasons —it isn’t Delaware.
But seriously — I used to have to travel to Newark, Delaware for work and ventured over to New Jersey one afternoon, expecting the worst from all of the jokes I’ve heard. It was an interesting drive, seeing the sleepy little former industrial towns a few miles apart on the route I took, whatever route that was. My son went to Princeton and I visited him there a couple of times. My company also had a facility in a up north in Flanders, and the autumn scenery was nice.
All in all, not a bad experience, and better than some places I’ve been. I don’t know that would be enough for me to want to live there, though.
... and let’s not forget the mandate for full serv more expensive gasoline.
Why would anyone want to go to NY? I sure would not.
