There are about 9 million of us living here, and we all cant be delusional.
Apart from those who live here primarily because of job or family, most New Jerseyans live here because they like it here! New York City is a quick PATH or train ride away why live there?
The Shore, the Pine Barrens, beautiful countryside, diners, beaches, the nations most diverse city, small towns, great scenic highways does any state pack as much variety into one compact package as New Jersey? Nope.
Here are the 50 best reasons to live in New Jersey, from someone who was born here (Trenton) and has travelled endlessly to every part of the state. This list could have easily included 100 or more items.
What are your favorite reasons to live here? Let us know in the comments section. The list is not ranked. Roadside farm stands
Forget that store-bought, grown-in-California, -Mexico, -Peru or wherever produce. Nothing beats a tomato, peach or other fruit or vegetable from a Jersey roadside stand. Scores of family-run stands dot the landscape, and there are an additional 144 community farmers markets in towns across the state. N.J. ranks third nationally in cranberry production, fourth in tomatoes, bell peppers, peaches and cucumbers (cukes? who knew?) and sixth in blueberries. Were not called the Garden State for nothing.

North Georgia is gorgeous. Its where the Appalachian trail begins/ends. Savannah is of course the most beautiful city in the United States (take that Charleston). Atlanta is a whole lotta traffic. Columbus is a military base. Sea Islands are neither the best nor worst beaches in on the East coast. Friendly people of all races everywhere. Thats my appreciation of the state.
Snooki was born in Chile and raised in Staten Island, NY.
I grew up in Bergen County. Good delis, diners, pizza and bagels.
Don’t give me your iron-clad logic!
She was on JERSEY SHORE.
That makes her enough of a Jersey Girl for me.
Yep. And since that case, over the years, a few other bills were introduced, with each one fought and knocked out.
But, now a new group/generation is HSing, and their thinking is a little different. Hope they continue to cherish freedom.
In those tragic cases, the state was already checking on the kids, even placing them in those homes, but did nothing to help them. They always blame HSing to deflect.
Amen.
I’ve never been that for north on the East Coast. Thanks
I understand; that large part of NJ doesn’t get much coverage nationally.
The northwest of the state, while much more rural, is probably as conservative as any southern state.
that is good to know
1. I never said I lived in NY. I just said it has better scenery than NJ.
2. I have been to Georgia.
3. I live in a state in which I can carry a gun without a permit.
OK, I’m with you. New York does have some generous sweet spots. The entire Northeast is peppered with some beautiful places. All things considered, our entire Nation is very difficult to beat.
Yep, what I remember.
I grew up in Palisades Park - Love Donna’s Pizza. Callahan’s is gone. But, Hiram’s has morphed into what the old Callahan’s was. I now live in north nj, in the Ramapo Mountains, just below Sterling Forest/Tuxedo NY. It’s a beautiful area.
Grew up in next door Leonia. There was a little league football league back in the 60s which included boys from Palisades Park that I played in. As I got older I eventually lived in an apartment in Palisades Park next to where the Police Department is located.
Since you are from Pal Park you must also remember the bakery and the Park Lane Theater.
I live few miles into PA, and avoid Jersey like the coronavirus.
After two incidents of getting a ticket, one for no seatbelt and one for talking on the phone, I took the hint. For every 5 Jersey citizens there’s one cop, hunting to fill his monthly quota.
He make 120,000 a year and retires at 45. He then retires with his golden parachute, moves to PA and tries to open a new police department in a town of 200 people. His new goal, open a new protection racket and get his net annual take up to 200,000.
Some great pix and links. Even Amish roast chicken in Mullica Hill. No Bridgeton, though.
How lovely! Thanks for the link!
I sure miss my drives down the back roads of South Jersey, through the pineys and farms to da shore.
There used to be so many cool drives from Philly to dashore through farmland and pine barrens. Did one of our past favorites last year on a visit that had some new developments closer to Rte 73 but then back to untouched farmlands closer to Cumberland and Salem counties.
Found that on the DelMarVa a few years ago as well...
I used to go from Black Horse Pike to 555, to 557 all the way through Woodbine, then 47 to rt 9 and finally 109 (if going to Cape May). Gorgeous ride. Have no idea what it is like now. I read a couple of years ago that muslim immigrants were working on some of the farms around Buena, and building their communities around there. But I’m unable to find a reference to that now. Supposedly there is a mosque in Bridgeton.
