The Westmoreland County home of Pittsburgh Pirates legend Bill Mazeroski and his wife will go to the highest bidder, with the sale coming less than three months after memorabilia from his Hall of Fame career and other household items attracted hundreds of people to a New Year’s Day auction.

Bids on Bill and Milene Mazeroski’s house on Walton Tea Room Road, located in Hempfield, are scheduled to be taken March 22, according to Mark Ferry Auctioneers of Unity. The 1,700-square-foot house has three bedrooms, three baths and sits on 19.6 acres, according to an auction listing.

The modest single-story ranch house has a garage, outbuilding and small outdoor patio. There is an enclosed sunroom at the rear and a finished basement along with a mid-century kitchen and bathrooms, including one turquoise and brass accents and other adorned with pink tile walls and tub.

Interesting to see how modestly a baseball legend from the 1960's lived as compared to today. A rather modest home indeed. And I thought I was the only one dealing with retina-popping pink bathroom tile!

Article says Mazeroski recently moved to the Philadelphia area to be closer to family there. He is 83.

So that is where the great Bill Mazeroski dropped his Sunday morning deuces, huh? Should be a historical marker or something...

So that is where, on Saturday’s, The Maz shook “The Green Weenie”.

So, that is where he honed “the squeeze play”.

“No hands” was a wonder, and despite being a mediocre hitter made it to the HOF. Too bad Dick Groat is not there with him. Dick Stuart, “Dr. Strageglove” was something, as was Don Hoak at third base. That was when a team could stay together for years.

Ironically enough, the precise location of home plate at Forbes Field, where he stood when he hit that home run, is now inside a ladies' room in Posvar Hall on the University of Pittsburgh campus.

Dr. Strangeglove is one of the greatest baseball nicknames of all time.

Perhaps the greatest defensive player of all time, at any position. And any rookie on major league minimum salary today would turn up his nose on the house (though 19 acres in Hempfield would be nice to have).
