CN yesterday announced it has initiated a "disciplined and progressive" shutdown of its operations in Eastern Canada until protest blockades on its lines in Ontario are removed, company officials said in a press release.
The shut down will include stopping and securing all trans-continental trains across its Canadian network, including intercity VIA Rail service. The Metrolinx and Exo commuter-rail services will not be impacted, CN officials said.
Earlier this week, protesters set up the blockades across the country in a show of solidarity for the Wet'suwet'en Nation, whose hereditary chiefs oppose the construction of a natural gas pipeline through northern British Columbia.
Since protests began, more than 400 trains have been cancelled and new protests have "emerged at strategic locations" on the railroad’s mainline, CN President and Chief Executive Officer JJ Ruest said.
CN sought and obtained court orders, and requested the assistance of enforcement agencies for the illegal blockades in Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia.
While the illegal blockades have come to an end in Manitoba and "may be ending imminently" in British Columbia, the orders of the court in Ontario "have yet to be enforced and continue to be ignored," CN officials said.
The shut down may lead to temporary layoffs within the railroad’s Eastern Canadian operational staff, officials said.
“This situation is regrettable for its impact on the economy and on our railroaders as these protests are unrelated to CN's activities, and beyond our control,” Ruest said. “Our shutdown will be progressive and methodical to ensure that we are well set up for recovery, which will come when the illegal blockades end completely."

That chemical is used by the body to deal with alcohol. And, since there is a deficiency of that chemical in ALL Oriental Asians, the "native Indians" succumbed to "fire water," alcohol.
I found this out because I succumbed to alcohol when I was 29 years old. I had a drink and my face turned PURPLE.
My sister rushed me to the hospital and I was given a bunch of shots of Benedryl. Problem solved.
Some years later I discovered my DNA background:
92% European--French, Spanish, Irish (father) and German, English and East Asian (mother). She was 8% East Asian and I inherited the Oriental part: deficiency in acetaldehyde dehydrogenase.
I then got NINE shots over two years and the problem was solved. I CAN drink but I don't.

Oriental Asians also don't have much body hair and my forearms are 100% hairless. So were my mother's and sister's.
Asian Caucasians, that is INDIANS, PAKISTANIS and SRI LANKANS are as hairy as the Asian Orientals are NOT. And, the Caucasian Asians have NO deficienxcy in acetaldehyde dehydrogenase.
The first people on this continent were CAUCASIANS.

Their SKULLS were oval. ORIENTAL ASIANS also have ROUND heads. Those skulls found at the bottom of the pits were OVAL, just like Europeans.
Someone suggested that they could be black African skulls but "experts" say that the African population could not have traveled THAT far from another continent...as there were no "bridges."
One last zinger: Han Chinese, 92% of all Chinese, have ROUND nostrils. The rest of the Oriental Asians and human race have the oval nostrils.

Call me cynical if you want, but more and more, I’ve come to believe that the non-stop (and thus far wildly successful) efforts to keep Alberta oil and gas landlocked, and in the ground, are not so much about “environmental concerns” and/or “First Nations Rights”, so much as they are nothing more or less than plain, garden-variety extortion from folks trying to get one or two more zeroes on their cheques.
In the end, it’s all about ‘Mo’ money’.
If you have wondered why the Canadian economy is 1/10 of what
it should be capitulating to the various kook groups in their in country is one of the reasons.
They want to protest a gas line, so they block a railroad? What does the one have to do with the other?
Ontario and Manitoba are in the middle of Canada and British Columbia is in the West, so why are they shutting down operations in the east?
They actually just made some strategic acquisitions here on the east coast.

CN use the US rails. Unfortunately you sold the D&H, but maybe PamAm will let you run trains on its rail. Then you can use your rail in Maine.

You are sort of on the right track and to figure it out, just keep following the money. Vivian Krause has done a ton of work in this area… do a search on her and then go on to youtube and watch some of interviews. Ever wonder why when you see video of these blockades you only see a handful of folks that look like natives? Who are all these other folks and who funds them? Well, they of course are the professional protestor eco-warriors who when you follow the trail of the funding, it ends up at one of these groups….Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Dogwood Initiative (funded by the Tides Foundation and their offshoot Tides Canada), William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, Training Resources for the Environmental Community (TREC), Moore, W. Allan Jones Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, Brainerd Foundation and, Suzuki and so on…. hopefully you are getting the picture. ALL the eco-terrorists-warriors and the natives in Canada are totally beholden to these groups because that’s who funds them. Now why pray tell would all these groups for which the common denominator is that they are primarily south of the 49th send all this money north of the border? Well… it’s very simple, follow the money. Since Canada doesn’t have a west coast pipeline, the country can’t get their oil out to sell in the world market. And what does that mean? Americans get to buy Canadian oil at a such a deep discount it’s embarrassing and criminal. Yup… Americans are saving billions on the dime of Canadians.
