I’m not a basketball fan so I just don’t get it. I was watching Fox News Sunday hoping to see the panel’s comments on the Iowa caucuses. Instead, they broke in with lengthy coverage of this guy’s death. Every known detail was covered including details about his divorce. It went on and on and on as if he were some kind of saint. He was even described as of the stature in basketball to be on Mt. Rushmore. Please! Frankly, I couldn’t care less. This country is obsessed with celebrities, including sports celebrities.
It’s a truly sad commentary on the state of our culture and our country that some guy who made a living running up and down a court throwing a ball into a basket gets this much attention when he dies. As I said, who cares?

Well, he WAS a superstar.

And I agree generally, we are a bit obsessed with sports and other celebrity.

HOWEVER, OTOH, thank God we CAN get so excited about such unimportant things.

We have it great when we can do so.

The key is to remind citizens - including the libs who hate our society so much - that this IS the truth.

Walk a fine line between important things, and frivolity, and you know we have it good.

I call knowing all this, being spoiled, but NOT rotten.

Yes, the world worships celebrities. We make them rich. But they are no more special than anyone else in the eyes of God. Five people died when someone probably made a bad decision. Happens every day it seems.

That’s why we are to build our treasure in heaven. For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

No it’s not! Just like movie or tv stars, some athletes are among those people grew up watching as teens or formative years of their lives and was and is a part of their life as far as memories. You may not like sports or basketball but millions do and root for teams and players and , they’ve been doing that for thousands of years even back in Greek forerunning of the Olympics and Roman gladiators or chariot racers. I never will forget when Andy Griffin died years ago and although he was a Democrat and loved obama many Freepers were distraught because they grew up watching the show as kids
