While introducing a concept car is nice, Toyota chose this years Consumer Electronics Show to announce it is building an entire city, the roads packed with last years autonomous concept cars. Top that, competitors.
The living laboratory will be built on 175 acres that used to crank out the Toyota Yaris. Efficiencies in production meant the plant was no longer necessary, freeing up all that land.
Toyota said it would be a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

I was thinking the company store at the coal mine community. Now both your company and the government can keep track of what you do, eat, watch, and read. It is green though. That makes everything safe, pure, and comfortable.
Of course, the next question is, where do they get the energy to separate the hydrogen for the fuel cells.
Isn’t this similar to the original idea behind the Epcot Center? At one time Epcot Center was supposed to be the Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow. It was going to be a planned city where residents would use experimental new technology before the rest of the world .
175 acres... Just a little more than 1/2 mile by 1/2 mile.
Epcot ran out of letters to use before it got to H for Hydrogen. i.e. lgbt, etc comes first.

USA used to have company towns like this. Plenty of court cases where it was established they’re treated just like any town and therefore can’t infringe your rights even though it’s all private property.
