ORLANDO, Florida They say elephants never forget. Well, neither does Nick Saban.
In No. 9 Alabama's 35-16 Citrus Bowl win over No. 17 Michigan, Saban's Crimson Tide scored a touchdown in the game's final minute. At the time, the Crimson Tide commanded a 12-point lead.
Football fans were quick to debate whether or not Saban ran the score up on purpose, digging up an old rivalry between the five-time national champion and Harbaugh.

I seem to recall Jimmy Johnson being berated about running up the score and he said something like "if they don't stop playing why should we?"
Oh come on. They kept running the ball the entire final drive, and Michigan frequently failed to tackle the runner. What were they supposed to do, sit on it?
I admit was surprised Bama went for the score rather than end the game.
...
Bama ran the ball up the middle each time. So no, I don’t think they were trying to run up the score.
Harbaugh also used up his timeouts on that drive. Why should Bama quit trying if he’s doing that?
Sabin gets paid to win and win impressively. Winning big intimidates future opponents in many ways. Its all about winning and the bucks winning brings.
“Guy in L.A.”
LA as in “Lower Alabama”?
I don’t blame Saban but it was somewhat out of character. Too bad for the MI QB whose final pass of his college career was an interception.
“Michigan LB Cameron McGrone thought late Alabama touchdown was smack in the face “ : https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/michigan-lb-cameron-mcgrone-thought-late-alabama-touchdown-was-smack-in-the-face/ar-BBYwX2M?ocid=spartanntp
At this level of competition, there is no such thing as running up the score. This is not Jr-high girls basketball.
Bama had a disappointing season by their recent standards. A little spanking of a Michigan team by a Bama team is always a good way to end the season.
Maybe 10 years ago Troy was trailing Middle Tennessee with very little time left.
I can’t recall the details but Troy was trailing by 2 scores and time running out. Troy scored on a big play, recovered an onside kick and made another big play, winning what has always since been known as “The Miracle In Murfreesboro.”
You can’t go back. Everybody does it now. No more that magnanimous gentleman stuff. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. That’s been my observation.
Jim Harbaugh is a sour picklepuss anyhow. He’d throw a red flag and have a call reviewed on his mother. Totally unlike his brother John.
.
Its not Sabins job to keep from running up the score, its Harbaughs.
After that learn that occasionally you will get your face ground in the dirt. It builds character.
Sports should teach you how to lose, how to win and how to play hurt.
All those things prepare you for life where you will sometimes win, sometimes lose and sometimes have to play hurt.
Uh. The margin is not that big....
is Michigan whining or something?
Even though about 5 starters aren’t playing, my DAWGS are beating up Baylor(19 to 0)
Did Saban run up the score?
I hope so. Jim Harbaugh is a jerk. He has tried all sorts of stupid stunts aimed at Alabama’s recruiting. Some of his stunts resulted in NCAA legislation prohibiting his “creative” activities. Spending the night at a recruit’s house and having “satellite football camps” are a couple of examples.
We ran the ball 9 straight times on the last drive. If they didn’t want Alabama to score, they should have stopped calling timeouts and just stopped Alabama from running the ball.
On the play where Alabama scored its last touchdown, it could have taken a knee and run the clock out; Michigan had no timeouts. The fact that Alabama tried to score on that play sure looks like Saban running up the score.
Headline sounds like it was written by a dipwad liberal baby.
What’s Saban supposed to do, not hurt Michigan’s fee-fees?
My criticism of Alabama is for running the ball when they were only 12 points ahead. They were obviously dissing Michigan. Because if they thought Michigan was able to play at Alabama’s level, they would have tried harder to score with a whole minute left.
Michigan’s coach and players apparently weren’t ready to play the big boys.
