It's called Brothers Volcano. Wikipedia says its 340 kilometers north east of New Zealand’s Whakaari/White Island. That's where people were just killed in an eruption. Seems like the area is becoming active.

Professor James Renwick, a weather and climate researcher at Victoria University, said the phenomenon is caused when an area becomes concentrated with sunshine and little wind. Come on, Prof. You should know you cannot mention the sun in any stories involving something in the environment getting hot. He'll lose all his grants for that silly claim!
