Nice! If you get one of those vehicles you can drop your liability insurance coverage and save some good $$! GM is responsible for any “at fault” collisions!

Well, it does make it easier to control people.

Exactly. When you think through this push for driverless cars, you realize people will be giving up control of where and how they'll go. It won't be long until government makes those decisions for us. And that my friends is just another step toward tyranny and complete loss of freedom. It will all be done in he name of "saving the environment" and "climate change," of course.

Every Congress member needs to be moved around in one of these. Think of the money saved on chauffeur pensions.

It won’t be HAL making the decisions I forsee. It’ll be someone with a name like Alexandria, Rashida or Nanzi.

Maybe they should ask the woman pedestrian who was hit by a self-driving Übermobile whether this is a good idea.

No wait, they should ask her family since the Übermobile killed her.

What good is a steering wheel that the car controls? A person could hurt themselves trying to fight it.

Any self-respecting red-neck would consider it a challenge to wire around the controls.

When these cars breaks down on the road and need to be pushed off to the side of the road, how are good Samaritans going to push it off to the side of the road without any steering wheel, I guess it might get damage with some pick up forcing it off to the side of the road with brutal force in the direction it needs to go in.

This is a big deal. The architecture of all cars today is dominated by major but simple requirements: You start with a driver, who needs a seat, which requires a nearby brake pedal and steering wheel, and who needs to see out, which requires a glass windshield and side windows. These simple requirements establish the basic shape and layout of all vehicles on the road today. Taking away these basic driver controls opens the doors for great innovations in automobile shape, safety, and comfort. Hooray to GM.

Broderick Crawford on highway safety:

“The careless driver isn’t driving his car, he’s aiming it!”

“It isn’t the car that kills, it’s the driver!”

“No matter how new, the safest device in your car is you!”

“It isn’t what you drive, but how you drive that counts!”

“The clowns at the circus, they’re real funny, but on the highway they’re murder!”

“Reckless driving doesn’t determine who’s right, only who’s left!”

“If you care to drive, drive with care!”

“Try to be as good a driver as you think you are!

That was selected later from catalogs.

I don't recall that but then again I was never in the market for a new car, but I can say that steering wheels were very large of necessity because power steering was no where near being standard equipment as it is today.

Many old people could not steer a car today if power steering failed or even if the engine stalled. Same with brakes, I can remember standing on brake pedal a few times when I was young and reckless.

And the control center on the ground couldn’t override the software problem for the Starliner yesterday, so the cars will take you to Minneapolis instead of Dallas? Great, uh huh, that’s the ticket. How about no?

Really a steering wheel in a self-driving car should be considered a necessary safety feature.
