Two Canadian men were fired from their jobs after one of them used the word Eskimo in a private conversation.
The two men were boarding a flight from Labrador to Newfoundland when Dave Beck said the word Eskimo.
His friend Thomas Scott responded by asking, Can you smell him?
The conversation was overheard by by Innu Nation member and former Labrador MP Peter Penashue and other passengers.
Beck and Scott, who worked primarily as plasterers and painters, had been working on a hotel renovation project overseen by Kankote Enterprises.
In spite of several years on the job, and being the only two Kankote employees at the remote Churchill falls, both men were fired and had their names dragged through mud reducing future job prospects, reports National File.
Beck pleaded for forgiveness in an extremely pathetic manner.
I know thats no excuse for the remarks I made, my words that hurt so many people, especially Indigenous people. Im not a racist. I would say culturally uneducated. Culturally illiterate, he told CBC.
Perhaps if the two had just blacked up like their Prime Minister instead of using a naughty word, they wouldnt have got into so much trouble.

In Alaska its a term used to describe multiple tribes. I suppose they only have Inuits in Canada....eh.
So Eskimo is now an “E” word in Canada?
Something about the high latitude and long winters makes Canadian men suffer from a lack of testosterone.
uhh ..this country has a football team named the EDMONTON ESKIMOS!!!!!
Do they sell Eskimo Pies in Canada?
Warren Moon won a bunch of Grey Cups with them, before going to the Oilers.
Two words, Frank Zappa...
Dreamed I was an eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero...
And my mama cried
And my mama cried
Nanook, a-no-no
Nanook, a-no-no
Don’t be a naughty eskimo
Save your money, don’t go to the show
Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh
Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh
Well I turned around and I said ho, ho
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye
Watch out where the huskies go, and don’t you eat that yellow snow
Watch out where the huskies go, and don’t you eat that yellow snow
Frank Zappa
As far as political correctness goes I’m just not inuit.
Get it? Get it?
Whoa, I must have missed that memo. Is there an app for that?
Holy cow. I used the word the other day explaining “igloo” to my little 5 year old granddaughter. Bad JudyinCanada.
This foolishness certainly has more to do with the one guy asking “Can you smell him?” and not the other guy first using the term “Eskimo.” And of course there was a thin-skinned Eskimo buttinski in line behind them . . . (Do Eskimos smell? If so, is it poor hygiene or their legendary alcohol consumption?)
Although the name “Eskimo” is commonly used in Alaska to refer to all Inuit and Yupik people of the world, this name is considered derogatory in many other places because it was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean “eater of raw meat.”
Wow - the things you learn! This is from google. So next time you’re in the sushi bar you can call everyone an Eskimo.
I think the other five or six teams are all named Roughriders.
I liked Warren Moon when he played for the Oilers but the Houston fans sucked rocks; when I cared about the NFL.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, thats why I have a gun.
UK has these retarded hate speech laws too. Do Australia and NZ have them?
I never understand the objections about sports teams names.
Edmonton Eskimos must be offensive in our politically correct world. I wonder if they have debates in Canada about that name, similar to the Washington Redskins debate.
But if team names are offensive, aren’t all names offensive?
Green Bay Packers must be offensive to real meat Packers.
Dallas Cowboys are offensive to real cowboys.
Pittsburgh Steelers are offensive to real steel workers.
Boston Celtics is offensive to actual Celtic or Irish.
Notre Dame fighting Irish is offensive for the same reason.
