Yeah that playoff stomping of the Cryboys at the Pontiac Silverdome was the football highlight of my time up there.

I was here in Dallas, and I thoroughly enjoyed that day.

The Lions have never been winners as they have a horrible front office that cannot build a team (thanks Russ Thomas)...

Hey, I’m suffering just like you guys. I wonder if Detroit will ever see another title in our lifetime. Oh well, guess we always will have those Pistons and Red Wings titles, along with ‘68 and ‘84 for the Tigers.

While I was living there the Steelers came to town to play at the Silverdome. I brought my whole family up to go see the game with me. You could get tickets dirt cheap. Steelers fans outnumbered Lions fans 8:1 there.

I liked Wayne and thought he got a raw deal.

Not a hockey or basketball fan, but I follow Tigers regularly.

Look for Mize and/or Manning to make their MLB debuts sometime in 2020. Several other promising pitching prospects are in the pipeline. Need offense, will get #1 draft pick again, and there’s some punch available from which to choose.

Tigers won’t lose 100+ in 2020. Still, they’re probably at least 4 years away from contending for a division title.

I’m one of those that doesn’t believe in judging too quickly. A complex game with complex dynamics, both in season and out of season.

That said, I’m tired. Very tired. Now it’ll be 29 years without a playoff win. I’m tired of seeing players like Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, Matt Stafford...all being WASTED by an organization that can’t build a team around their stars. They just take them for granted, they’ll bring in the ticket sales, that’s all.

We either have a running game (Barry) and no QB. Or a QB and a SINGLE star receiver with no O-line. Or a generally good offense with a sieve for a defense - one that couldn’t stop a must-stop drive to save their lives.

For years we had the carousel of coaches and QB’s. Rarely having the same pair for more than a year. THAT is a formula for failure. Matt Stafford has had his share of coaching changes. Another one might just be a final straw in his love for the game, just like Barry.

For the most part I watch the first few games and judge the team by the O & D-lines. If the QB is running around and we have no running game, and/or can’t stop the run, then I just resign the season as another loss. They prove me right each year. ...so I just casually watch in case some miracle starts to happen.

Sigh.

Thanks for posting. I used to watch...and I was usually depressed the rest of Sunday and going into work on Monday. I haven’t watched in 20 years at least. My Sundays and Mondays have been great ever since.

Caldwell’s record in Detroit? It was 36-28, with two playoff appearances. He’d just put together consecutive 9-7 seasons. That wasn’t good enough for the new-look Lions.
Yeah, the common factor in their 61 year skid is the team ownership. Literally the only playoff win they've had in my lifetime was during the tenure of head coach Cocaine Wayne, who led them to a timid defeat in the NFC playoff game. If the Lions actually get to the Super Bowl (and I mean as a competing team, not their usual way, picking up some extra money by selling dogs and bags of nuts at the stadium on game day), I'll sing the National Anthem in the nude.
