Fred Astaire was 70 years old when he did this? Interesting, that if you look closely, you can see where Michael Jackson got his moves.
(Excerpt) Read more at google.com ...
Look at this mashup of Astaire to Smooth Criminal

I once compared it to the original soundtrack. Smooth criminal is better
If I remember correctly, Cyd is playing both female roles
He was so smooth and descriptive. he danced with the music, not to it.
When the Oscars had class, and worth watching.
Cool!!!!
Thanks for this. How could the audience not have been on their feet?
Did Wayne Cochran teach him that?

I wanted to mention how I started clicking on to some other videos after looking at the link.
Oh Gee, how I miss Johnny Carson. All fun and no politics. Those were good times!
Thanks.
Ahhh yes, back to a time when Hollywood stars had real talent and class.
They were also Patriotic in those days too.
Never could make up my mind who was the best between Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, they were both awesome, especially when paired with Rita Hayworth, just awesome stuff.
Decorum, dignity
Jackson always gave credit to the old masters for his ideas. He frequently mentioned Astaire, and also Gene Kelly.
Fred Astaire is Michael Jacksons father?
No wonder MJ was such a mess /sarc
They threw away the mold after Fred left us... What a career... What a talent...
So, I guess I’m a racist, if I say Wayne Cochran is a white James Brown (God Father of soul music.)
Oh Gee, how I miss Johnny Carson. All fun and no politics. Those were good times!

If you have SiriusXM, 105 on the dial > There’ssssssss Johnny ! I’m hooked.
Wayne and James knew each other. Soul Brother Number Half or Soul Brother Number 2
He played the Apollo in 1964

He passed away in the last year or two and had become a preacher.
Feminists love to say Ginger Rogers did everything he did backwards and in heels. I know nothing about dancing, but Ive seen a lot of experts without an agenda say she was nowhere in his league. And damn the feminists for putting her in the position of being needlessly criticized.
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are buried about 3 miles away from me near Chatsworth Park at the Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Many other celebs buried there. (about 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Love Fred’s dancing...even when he was 70!!
Just recently watched Holiday Inn (1942).
Great dancing and singing, in that film.
I don’t think they could get away with making it, today.
Wow!!! Great video. Didn’t know that they knew each other. 1964, I was 11 yr’s old. not quite into music than. Approx Woodstock era, when I started to notice music. Drove the parents nut’s with my first record player, playing Iron Butter Fly, in a gadda da vida, full album side approx 17 min’s. I have it playing as I type this. :->) Also remember having Wilson Picket album. Acid Rock to Brother’s music. Grew up, Brentwood, Long Island, New York. High School was equally divided almost 1/3 white, 1/3 Puerto Ricans, that would be me, and 1/3 Black’s. Yes we had armed Suffolk County Police patrolling the school grounds. We needed it, sorry to say.
