A pair of Great Danes killed an Ohio woman who kept the rescued animals over her husbands objections, authorities said.
Mary Matthews, 49, was found dead Friday in her Waynesville home by her husband, Dale Mark Matthews, some two years after she rescued the aggressive dogs
...
I never wanted Great Danes but she wanted to rescue them, Matthews told the newspaper. She loved animals so I let her get them. I probably should have put my foot down and said no, obviously.
Matthews said he was bitten by one of the massive dogs last month, leading him to worry that someone else could be attacked one day.

Horrible
I was under the impression that this breed is not aggressive. Guess I was misinformed.
Every Great Dane I have ever met was always a sweet tempered dog.
The Dane’s were rescues she was fostering. No telling what their prior owner did to abuse them.
Let’s see. The dog bit her husband a month earlier. She started each morning drinking beer and taking pain medications. He made the discovery of her death upon returning home after being released from jail. Did I miss anything?
One story said a sledge hammer was found by her body with blood on both sides...presumably her blood because the story didn’t mention that the dogs were injured. Also if the dogs were in such a frenzy I don’t see how she got them back out on the deck. Something seems fishy about this story.
A kind heart toward animals trumped reason and common sense here. Her husband should have laid the law down sooner.
“I was under the impression that this breed is not aggressive. Guess I was misinformed.”
Two loose, young Great Danes attacked my leashed German shepherds about seven years ago. My senior female let the Great Danes know who was the alpha dog.
“Did I miss anything?”
Yes, the point of my post.
Either the husband did it, or someone “pushed” the dogs to do this. I do not believe his “bite” story either.
A boy was killed not far from my neighborhood by two Danes (about ten years ago.) And here, at the time, I had a purebred rotttweiler who was the goofiest good will ambassador for her breed.
There were freepers who said my dog was a stone cold killer at the time.
Paging Columbo. You are needed in Ohio.
LOL
The victim started out with a few beers first thing in the morning along with her prescription pills. Darwin laments foregoing situational awareness to get a buzz on.
They are about as docile as dogs are, Someone must have treated them terribly.
Me too, they would not hit a high note, even when howling. Ans each time they opened their mouths to hassle, a five pound sack of Dixie Crystals sugar fell out.
Never the less more than 80% of fatal dog attacks come from the dog of peace.
Yes, you might have added: "What could possibly go wrong?"
Those Danes are no so Great.
Mediocre Danes at best.
