Bill Clinton Admits He Chose Ruth Bader Ginsburg Due To Her Abortion Stance

Even though the President of the United States is supposed to appoint Supreme Court Justices based on their judicial philosophy and not their politics, President Bill Clinton admitted this past week that he chose Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg due to her steadfast commitment to upholding abortion.

Speaking at Georgetown University Law School on Wednesday, the president said that protecting Roe v. Wade played a significant role in his selection of Ginsburg to the Supreme Court.

“There is one thing that we did discuss, and I feel I should tell you, because it will illustrate why I thought I should appoint her,” Clinton said, as reported by ABC News. “Abortion was a big issue in 1992 — the right to choose, I was one of the first pro-choice Democrats to run since Roe v. Wade, who actually benefited from Roe v. Wade. Now, she didn’t have to say anything about this. She knew this perfectly well that I was under a lot of pressure to make sure I appointed someone who is Simon-pure, which I had said was important.”

As noted by ABC News, almost no president has ever admitted to asking a potential Supreme Court nominee on how they would rule on an issue like abortion. In fact, when Justice Gorsuch was asked about such a meeting during his confirmation process, he said that would have “walked out the door” if President Trump pressed him to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Former President Clinton said he inquired with Ginsburg about the issue of abortion and admitted that his pick was “clearly pro-choice” after nominating her.

“I asked her the question and she talked about it just as if it was any other issue, no effect, this is what I think, this is why I think it. And she made a heck of a case,” Clinton said.

National Review noted that Bill Clinton’s frank admission about how he selected Ginsburg suggests she may have lied during the U.S. Senate confirmation hearing when she said it was inappropriate for anyone to ask how a judicial nominee would rule on a specific case.

“It is inappropriate, in my judgment, to seek from any nominee for judicial office assurance on how that individual would rule in a future case,” she said. “That judgment was shared by those involved in the process of selecting me. No such person discussed with me any specific case, legal issue or question in a manner that could reasonably be interpreted as seeking any express or implied assurances concerning my position on such case, issue, or question.”

Ginsburg’s pro-abortion record on the Supreme Court is well-documented and often goes beyond legal jurisprudence and into ideological statements about sexism and gender politics, such as when she accused her male peers of sexism in the Hobby Lobby ruling.

“Do you believe that the five male justices truly understood the ramifications of their decision?” Katie Couric asked Ginsburg in light of the ruling.

“I would have to say no,” she replied. “But justices continue to think and can change. I am ever hopeful that if the court has a blind spot today, its eyes will be open tomorrow.”

Benefited from Roe? What is he saying? Is he saying that he was the first Dem nominee to have procured a legal abortion? If so, well, yes, that seems probably true. Thinking about the other guys... Jimmy Carter, Fritz Mondale, Dukakis... very possible, even probable, that none of those guys ever knocked up some gal on the side.

I wonder how many people know that Ruth Bader Ginsberg was critical of the Roe vs. Wade decision? A number of years ago, she had this to say about it:

Those more acquainted with Ginsburg and her thoughtful, nuanced approach to difficult legal questions were not surprised, however, to hear her say just the opposite, that Roe was a faulty decision. For Ginsburg, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that affirmed a woman’s right to an abortion was too far-reaching and too sweeping, and it gave anti-abortion rights activists a very tangible target to rally against in the four decades since.

Ginsburg and Professor Geoffrey Stone, a longtime scholar of reproductive rights and constitutional law, spoke for 90 minutes before a capacity crowd in the Law School auditorium on May 11 on “Roe v. Wade at 40.”

“My criticism of Roe is that it seemed to have stopped the momentum on the side of change,” Ginsburg said. She would’ve preferred that abortion rights be secured more gradually, in a process that included state legislatures and the courts, she added. I think it's obvious today that the SCOTUS decision which overruled EVERY state's rights on the issue was actually UN-constitutional. That many states today are reasserting their rights even under Roe to limit or outlaw abortion are evidence that Ginsberg's preference to have left the matter to individual states legislatures was just as wrong-headed as her opinions defending it. Her point that wealthy women would always find a way to obtain abortions, though true, misses the fact that more and more people are abhorrent of the practice as we gain information about fetal development and advances in neonatology mean younger and younger babies survive premature birth.

I pray I live to see the day that abortion won't have to be made illegal because it will be unthinkable.

Since Clinton signed the National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act of 1993, “fetal-tissue research” has expanded into a federally subsidized multi-million dollar industry of selling human spare parts salvaged from abortions.

For example, the NIH budgeted $21 million in fiscal year 1999 for grants and awards for fetal tissue research. At the University of Washington, the NIH subsidizes the central laboratory for human embryology.

According to a lab notice obtained by WorldNetDaily, it “can supply tissue from normal or abnormal embryos and fetuses of desired gestational ages between 40 days to term. Specimens are obtained within minutes of passage, and tissues are aseptically identified, staged, and immediately processed according to the requirements of individual investigators.” The notice is signed by Alan G. Fantel of the department of pediatrics.

At the time, two organizations that profited from this growth industry were (the now defunct) Opening Lines, a business formerly located in West Frankfort, Illinois...... and Anatomic Gift Foundation, headquartered in Laurel, Maryland.

Opening Lines publicly gave credit to President Clinton for opening up the lucrative business in fetal tissue trade. According to Opening Lines, on January 22, 1993 (the infamous anniversary of legalized abortion---Clinton is not without an in-your-face governing style), Clinton lifted the moratorium on federal funding. “This action created a great demand for fetal tissue and has made possible the development of treatments for individuals afflicted with serious diseases and disorders,” says the Opening Lines sales brochure.

Both companies served as wholesalers for the marketing of baby body parts to researchers, drug companies, hospitals and universities. These groups harvest the baby parts from abortion clinics and ship them to their customers.

Opening Lines provides fetal tissue researchers with a “fee for service schedule,” which gives prices for each body part. For example, Opening Lines charged:

<><> $400 for an intact embryonic cadaver;

<><>$75 for 8-week-old baby's eyeballs (40% discount for a single eye);

<><>$150 for two arms or legs; and,

<><> $100 for the skin of a 12-week-old baby.

Instead, they held demonstrations for him, gave millions to his defense fund, and most stunning of all, saw Gloria Steinem on the opinion page of The New York Times no less, the founder of the feminist movement that among other things claims unwanted attention is tantamount to rape, dismiss and explain away his sexual assault of Kathleen Willey because after grabbing multiple handfuls of Willey and forcing her hand to his member, Clinton stopped when she said no.

That's how Bill Clinton benefited from Roe and he knows it.
