I tried calling them chigroes, but they weren’t happy, then I tried chacks, and now call them arachnid-Americans.

Dr. Sivana :" For the record, we caught it early, and my body responded well to $20 worth of anti-biotics over three weeks."

About eight years ago, while in New Hampshire, I was bitten by 5 known ticks.
Upon notifying my family doctor, they administered the only then known treatment
of three weeks anti-biotics (21 days).
Since Lyme disease is a virus, anti-biotics are not effective against viral diseases.

A couple of other hints that I’ve found to be effective:

1) Wear a smoother material pant. Personally, I prefer khaki tactical pants which helps seeing any ticks trying to catch a free ride a bit easier. Also the smoother fabric doesn’t help them cling as much, unlike denim. Think of regular hiking pants as well.

2) If the pant has some sort of Dupont water-repellent finish, take some extra care when applying Permethrin to them. Lay them flat on a picnic table and spray liberally, then use a Permethrin soak rag to wipe the side down. Let dry, flip and repeat. I’ll usually do two coats to ensure full coverage. Also do the first two-inches inside the pant leg bottoms and inside the waist. Permethrin is designed to kill the tick, not just as a repellent.

3) Also, don’t forget other articles of clothing: socks, shoes, bandana, etc.

4) There is also the option of buying clothes already impregnated with Permethrin. After a hike in here in Eastern TN earlier this year, I actually found two dead ticks on my socks (ExOfficio brand) which came already impregnated with Permethrin.

I live in rural Missouri. I work outdoors. You are needlessly restricting yourself from enjoying many things the Midwest has to offer.

Snowflakes melt pretty fast around here.

This is way overblown.

Lyme disease is a bacteria; Powassan is the viral infection.

In reference to your 4)

I had a guy working at my house doing some excavation in September. He had clothes he said he sent back once year to the manufacturer to get retreated with permethrin. I do not know the brand, but they were all a lite smooth khaki color. His shirt looked like one of those fishing shirts.

“All my outdoor clothes are covered in Permathrin.:)”

I think you mean pyrethrin, which is an insect repellent.
Pyrethrin come from chrysanthemum flowers and is a mixture of six chemicals produced by the flower that are toxic to insects. Strangely enough, these same chemicals are not toxic to mammals and chrysanthemum tea is actually quite pleasant tasting.

Nope. I mean permathrin. It is synthetic, and I believe it is a synthetic form of Pyrethrin.

Permethrin is the synthetic version of Pyrethrin.

I smashed a black fly firmly into my shoulder. A bullseye erupted right around it. Dr treated me with antibiotics after lab tests showed I’d contracted Lyme Disease. I believe I’ve uncovered a second vector—after deer ticks. Only Dr Joseph (PA) agrees it’s likely.

The only company I'm aware of that does this is: https://www.insectshield.com/Insect-Shield-Your-Clothes-P338.aspx

Thank you voicereason,
I didn’t know there was a synthetic version.
