MI has a new law and some rifles are permitted in zone 3 for deer hunting. 44 mag rifles are legal everywhere in the state for deer.
I wish they would up the maximum cartridge length from 1.8 to 2 inches. There's a .458 based cartridge that would be outstanding in thick Michigan woods:

You can use the 450 bushmaster for deer in zone 3. That is a pretty stout load that kicks like wounded mule.

If I was going to get a new rifle for Southern MI deer it would be chambered for the 350 Legend. Flat shooting out to 200 yds and little felt recoil.
