Ps. Check thyroid. That can effect your cholesterol numbers in a big way.

If you can do diet and exercise, you get a whole bunch of good side effects. If you rely on statins long term, you risk some bad ones (like CoQ10 deficiency).

I did it with diet and exercise, and am so glad that I did.

Statins are a class of drugs often prescribed by doctors to help lower cholesterol levels in the blood. By lowering the levels, they help prevent heart attacks and stroke. Studies show that, in certain people, statins reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and even death from heart disease by about 25% to 35%. The listed site, WEBMD, is a highly respected site and is used by a lot of medical professionals.

https://www.google.com/search? q=what+are+statins+for&rlz=1C1KMZB_enUS609US618&oq=what+are+statins+for&aqs=chrome.0.0l6.4692j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

I’ve been taking statin drugs since 2006. I personally haven’t had any of the side effects listed in the WEBMD website. There are always exceptions. But the use of the drug outweighs the non-use.

The most common statin side effects include headache, difficulty sleeping, flushing of the skin, muscle aches, tenderness, or weakness (myalgia), drowsiness, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, abdominal cramping or pain, bloating or gas, diarrhea, constipation, and rash.

Statins also carry warnings that memory loss, mental confusion, neuropathy, high blood sugar, and type 2 diabetes are possible side effects. It’s important to remember that statins may also interact with other medications you take. But that happens and your doctor will prevent you from cross contaminating the drugs.

I already had type II, hyper with neuropathy, and was on insulin prior to the start of my statin use. It has been a great product for me as my cholesterol is down and my heart is holding its own. Talk to the doc concerning your current drug use and how it could affect you. I recommend use. But everyone is a little different.

Statins are a scam designed to make drug companies lots of money. They are known to cause serious health problems. I suggest that to you do lots of research on the subject online. Find a natural way to do if need be.

After 7 years on 10mg Lipitor with no issues, switched to the starch-based plant diet. Total cholesterol fell precipitously. After 3 months and a pound a week weight loss, doc concurred to drop statin and check back in 4 months. TC stayed down to levels similar to taking statin. I play sports and there’s a risk of permanent muscle damage, and better to not take chances with statin. Read The Starch Solution (Dr John McDougall), Prevent and and Reverse Heart Disease (Dr Caldwell Esselstyn), Program for Reversing Diabetes (Dr Neal Barnard), and The China Study (T Colin Campbell, PhD Nutritionist). Do your own research. I’m down 20-25 lbs from before, and stayed down for last 8 years to 11th grade weight and BMI 23. Food cost is much lower too! All the protein one needs — believe it or now.

Because old fools on the internet have all of the info that your doctor doesn’t. He is simply a pawn for big pharma.

In fact why do you go to your doctor anyway?

keep in mind that statins increase one’s chance of getting type II diabetes by 30%, so if you’re pre-diabetic, statins could tip you over the edge ...

also, statins interfere with the body’s production of CoQ10, and guess which organ uses the most CoQ10: the heart.

Cholesterol is also the precursor for the synthesis of five classes of gender hormones: progestagens, glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, androgens, and estrogens ...

The brain has a higher cholesterol content than any other organ. In fact, about 25% of the body’s cholesterol is found in this small organ ...

Finally, cholesterol is vital to cell membrane structure ....

think long and hard about taking statins, and if you do, be on the lookout for the principle side-effects, namely muscle soreness, muscle weakness, and diminished cognition (brain feels like it’s stuffed with cotton).

and here is a list of other possible side-effects to be aware of, so if any of these things happen to you after you start taking a statin, then you’ll be aware of the cause:

Headache.
Difficulty sleeping.
Flushing of the skin.
Muscle aches, tenderness, or weakness (myalgia)
Drowsiness.
Dizziness.
Nausea or vomiting.
Abdominal cramping or pain.

Why? What’s exactly his reason...? It matters. And having low TOTAL cholesterol isn’t necessarily good...just saying there’s a lot more involved.

Taken Zocor for 17 years with no effects. Keeps my slightly elevated lipids in the normal range. Not for everyone but it works well for me.

https://www.hotzehwc.com/2019/02/dispelling-the-cholesterol-heart-disease-myth/

“...There is no direct evidence that elevated cholesterol causes heart disease. In fact, over half the people that die from heart attacks have normal cholesterol. Just because cholesterol is elevated in some people with coronary artery disease doesn’t mean that it is the cause. For instance, if you always see a police officer at the scene of an accident, that doesn’t mean that he was the cause of the accident, does it? No....”

Your doctor is an ignoramus following the lead of the Pied Piper AMA rather than studying any valid research.

The sooner that you embrace that viewpoint, the faster the facts will find you.

I apologize, but I’m just too burned out sounding like a broken record to people who end up doing the opposite anyway. Pardon the skepticism, but if I were a gambling man I’d bet that you end up on statins anyway...

All the best. If you’re lucky, I’ll get my books published before permanent harm comes to you from what I refer to as “Statin State”...another name for a different disease.

If you’re REAL lucky at gambling, you might stumble onto a solution on your own or, better, find someone like me who’s not thoroughly-jaded by what is overwhelmingly the topic of my 4th unpublished book: Why people choose to engage in behaviors which ultimately result in unhealthful states.

After literally thousands of hours of research, study & writing, I have a fair grasp of the cause of “western lifestyle disease” and it’s far too complex for any one pill, powder, elixir or ‘diet’ to resolve.

But I think I found the solution.

Our Doctor wanted the spouse and I on Statin drugs but we both suffered from joint pain as a result. We got off the statin drugs and stated taking Red Yeast Rice supplements instead. My spouse’s cholesterol dropped dramatically, mine dropped also but not as much. We haven’t noticed any side affects from the Red yeast rice supplements so we still take them. We also have been eating more Vegan type meals, lots of vegetables and very little meat & cheese. This seems to be working for us so far.

Don’t take them. The doctor wants your money.

Statins are a billion dollar industry.

They will give you dementia.

Search on you tube. Dr. From MIT

High cholesterol

Find a nutritionist and go on a diet

The cholesterol will decrease with weight loss

Why take a chance?

I have been using Lipitor then Generic version for over 30 years! (I must have been one of the first!)

Still here. No heart trouble.

High blood pressure “very well controlled” with drugs, nutrition, and diet. VWC means as long as I do those things I have “normal” blood pressure.

Type 2 Diabetes “very well controlled” with drugs, nutrition, and diet. VWC means as long as I do those things I have “normal” blood sugar levels.

Quit smoking, quit drinking (alcohol), quit sugar.

I lost 75 pounds too. My doctor is very happy with me.

Muscle side effects with statins correlate to low Vitamin D in some studies. Vitamin D council recommends minimum limits for Vitamin D should be higher. Many overweight people are Vitamin D deficient since it sequesters in body fat. As one who has had very low vitamin D and had significant weakness taking atorvastatin, I wonder if this was the cause. Check out a couple of the studies, seemed to be strong correlation. Maybe supplement with D if you have to take statins? When patient is D deficient, Dr. will prescribe megadosing D on a schedule. Vitamin D council states megadosing D is OK up to a point.

Lots of things work as well as statins and don't go after your health too.

One animal studyTrusted Source found that pumpkin seed oil not only helped lower cholesterol, but it also had anti-inflammatory effects

from google - "Several studies have indicated that consuming up to 2 grams of phytosterols per day can lower low-density lipoproteins (LDL or "bad" cholesterol) by up to 10 percent. This amount roughly equals 1 teaspoon of phytosterol extract or one tablespoon of a spread containing phytosterols.Mar 26, 2018"

"The main conclusion is that the effective doses were between 1.5 and 3 g/day, leading to reductions between 8% and 15% in LDL-cholesterol.">

from google - "Likely Boswellia serrata, through reduction of NO generation, can protect the liver function. This research showed that Boswellia serrata supplementation has beneficial effect in augmentation of HDL and reduction of total cholesterol and LDL levels among type2 diabetic patients.Feb 4, 2014"

Treatment of diabetic patient with Boswellia serrata was caused to significant increase in blood HDL levels as well as a remarkable decrease in cholesterol, LDL, ">

Again from google - One study showed that berberine can effectively reduce cholesterol levels in hamsters fed a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet. A 2012 study using human subjects found that three 500-milligram doses of berberine a day for 12 weeks was more effective in lowering cholesterol than ezetimibe.Mar 1, 2016

I take all of these things so let me know if you need help. They are radily available on amazon and some I take every day, as does my husband.

There is really no need to take statins, if you have not tried these much healthier options first.
