A subway serenade caught on video by an LAPD officer has gotten a lot of attention after the agency posted it on social media Thursday night.
A woman with an angelic voice gives the person recording the video an exclusive concert on a solitary subway platform at the Wilshire/Normandie Purple Line Metro station in Koreatown.
The woman is seen pulling a cart filled with items and carrying multiple bags while singing the operatic tune.
Multiple people told KTLA on Friday that the woman's name is Emily and she is originally from Russia.
A retired MTA driver told KTLA that the woman used to ride his bus in Hollywood and would often go as far as Glendale or Pasadena to perform on the street. He said he watched her play violin as well.

None of that stuff would stand up to, or shows any sign of having been subjected to, the wear and tear of homeless use.

She may be unemployed right now, but her clothing and all her ‘things’ are remarkably clean and stain free.
She has a good voice, albeit somewhat wandering in pitch, probably due to no accompaniment music to check the key.
I’m not that well versed in Opera Performances, but I used to have a CD with a Chinese-American girl singing that song.

Lots of homeless as in rest of Garcettiville, USA - but Koreatown is a true bright spot in Los Angeles. Even the homeless people cheer up.
Beautiful performance, and nicely staged.
Not to belittle the singer since I don’t know her but you can sound good, sometimes great, when the acoustics are right. I suspect in that subway, her voice or yours might have an edge. It’s similar to what some people experience in their morning shower.

I knew the Met had a casting couch thirty years ago. Now it comes out. I still can’t picture Pavarotti on a casting couch. It would have to be a triple-wide.
Oh, wait— maybe he used the same one that James Levine used.
Placido Domingo was a superior tenor to Pavarotti. Never understood why Pavarotti got so much acclaim.

Totally agree on Domingo superiority. The young Pavarotti had a beautiful voice when controlled by a good conductor (as in Verdi’s Dies Irae with Price, Talvela, Horne directed by Georg Solti). Later he became a divo instead of a singer, his voice changed not for the better.
