Are your devices strictly isolated hardware?

No software/firmware updates?
He uses an old i-pod hard wired to the speaker and mine was in memory card mode at the time.
We both use the same speaker model, it has bluetooth capability but neither of us was using it...he liked mine so he had me pick one up for him on amazon and paid me.

No, he said it was a Bluetooth speaker... His buddy also has a Bluetooth speaker... I'm thinking you're on to something here.. LOL
