Are There As Many Stars as Sand Grains?
September 22, 2019 | David F. Coppedge
A video clip from Illustra Media attempts to answer a common question: How many stars are there?
Lord willing, the Editor will soon be back from travel and speaking. Till then, enjoy this amazing video from Illustra Media!
HOW MANY STARS?
The question is timeless. Pondered, throughout history, by human beings of every culture, age, and nationality: how many stars are there in the universe? This fascinating film explores worlds gigantic and microscopic to reveal answers that challenge our perceptions of creation. Travel with us through galaxies and grains of sand; molecules and atoms, to count the stars and marvel at all that God has made.

Forgotten about it since then.....
You can count them.........
.... what God already knows.
What we see doesn’t fit in a 10,000 light year radius universe.
Why not Just ask the One who knows? :)
Behold Our God

VERSE 1
Who has held the oceans in His hands
Who has numbered every grain of sand
Kings and nations tremble at His voice
All creation rises to rejoice
CHORUS
Behold our God seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him!
VERSE 2
Who has given counsel to the Lord
Who can question any of His Words
Who can teach the One who knows all things
Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds
VERSE 3
Who has felt the nails upon His hands
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man
God eternal humbled to the grave
Jesus, Savior risen now to reign!
I think I remember seeing some mathematical sort of proof that if the number of stars really approached infinity the night sky would be white.
I donno - there are an awful lot of OTHER planets with sand grains on ‘em.
I think sand grains win on the numbers game.
It doesn’t approach infinity, so it isn’t white.
If he actually said that then he’s not as smart as he thinks he is.
Yeah, some people agonize over things that just do not matter.
Good job, I needed more time to find the actual quote. :-)
> We could request money to finally count the number of grains of sand on earth. <
Im in. Unless Im missing something, it should take about a month to get a decent estimate.
Step 1. Make a list of all the major beaches. Estimate their sand volumes: length x width x depth. Get the depth info. by calling a local guy.
Step 2. Count how many grains of sand are in, say, one cubic inch of beach sand.
Step 3. Multiply.
Step 4. Go on verification trips. Visit first-world resort beaches. Stay in luxury hotels only.
As I said earlier, it should take about a month to do the math. But we should apply for a five-year grant because of Step 4.
I’m 100% sure it’s just a joke and not an actual quote.
First you have to estimate galaxies. I’ve seen estimates of 200B to 2T galaxies.
Then each one holds from a few hundred million to maybe 100T stars.
Not a trivial question to ask.
My grandson Adam asked me where the universe ends? I said I think it is endless. We’re told that the universe it forever expanding by the experts? With our current technology and turtle slow space travel means....we’ll probably only know the answer to the grains of salt universe thing when we reach the other side after death? Then the Creator God will enlighten us to all the Mysteries of the universe!
