Always reminds me of A Streetcar Named Desire, fabulous 1951 movie with young Marlon Brando...But even back then, Desire was a crummy neighborhood.

Blanche Dubois’ famous line, “I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.” suggests Hillary and her millions.

But I digress. NOLA has a long way to go to catch Chicago

The Desire area is not desirable.

You said it. It was actually even less desirable before the giant Desire Public Housing Project was torn down. Built in the 50’s it had its own elementary school. gymnasium and a ‘shopping arcade’ which soon was gutted. It was one of the few US public housing developments built as a European style ‘comprehensive residential development’.

Ray Nagin may have been both ineffectual and a crook but the city owes him a debt of gratitude for pushing the demolition of the public housing complexes forward.
