Love the funny groove. I’m no musician but I think it has kind of a Bo Diddly beat. Syncopated rhythm or whatever. Love it.
Then again my favorite Rod Stewart song is Around the Plynth, Favorite Fleetwood Mac song is Hypnotized, and favorite stones song is Everything is Turning to Gold. So I guess I like offbeat tunes.
True. Led Zeppelin gets the award for most overplayed band on classic rock stations, with the Who nipping at their heels.

Good points. I don’t know why the OP would include Frank Zappa in a discussion about LZ and best rock band. Zappa was never in a rock band. It was an dictatorial ensemble and he wrote out all the parts. Nothing like a hard rock band like Zepellin.
I say that as someone who likes the Who, Zappa and LZ but would never think or wish to compare them.
I’d pick Deep Purple over Zep for hard rock.
Agreed. Deep Purple Mark II was fantastic live. Listen to Made in Japan, probably one of the best live albums ever recorded.

Ok, I haven’t read the replies but here’s how it will go. No!! The best bad is “insert obscure band name here”.
For my current tastes and those of my youth, Zeppelin is up there, but I would add the Allman Brothers, Chicago, Eagles, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Rush, Triumph, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band.....
I could go on and on....

I think part of it here is age.
I was 14 when Stairway came out.
Older posters .....Zepplin is noise....they like 60s rock and roll melody music and likely passed on Disraeli Gears or Axis
Like my dad viewed anything beyond The Carter Family or Hank Sr as irritating
Then Xers are going to be Rush....Rush and more Rush
And Rush is good
A lot of it is chronology of ones youth
I was raised on Elvis and Carl Perkins as a per schooler and the 45s era of grade school from London to LA to Motown to Memphis and Muscle Shoals and NYC
Then teen years coincided particularly with progressive FM ROCK ....
1968-75....the Rock not rock and roll era
Later college era was punk and new wave on one hand and stadium rock on the other
Captain Trips was in the side car from Alligator era till Terrapin Station when it got too jazzy for me....yes I saw Pig Pen at 13
That’s what formed my music.....I was very lucky....perfect timing
And I’m from Mississippi and the Delta is my spiritual homeland so I related to and knew of personally a lot of that cornerstone or rock and when folks sang about it
Geographical luck....so much music about where I lived as opposed to a kid in say Boise

That is why you can find their catchy songs on any Jukebox in the world. You got their "founding year" wrong. It was more like 1962 with their first America album released in 1964. This is off the top of my head, so I could be wrong. I believe the album was, "Meet England's Newest Hit Makers. The Rolling Stones." All covers except for one original I can't recall.
The Who was certainly better life of course my only Zep show was Cotton Bowl in 75 or 76

I like Hypnotized. I haven’t heard or don’t recall the other tunes you mentioned. Maybe I’ll check them out later.
A subject like that is very subjective and given to the tastes of the individual. There are a number of bands that could be considered one of the best in the world.
Realistically a top ten list could be considered.
Now I am a big Allman Brothers fan and I think they could be on a top ten list.

Van Halen is my favorite band but I also cannot dispute what Page said.
I never had the chance to see Zeppelin and I would sell one of my kidneys to do so. I did see Page play with the Firm back in the eighties so at least I have that.
I watched an interview that Page did a few months ago. He said something interesting that I had never heard. He said that outside of the first few shows that the did on their first U.S. tour, they never played a show that wan’t sold out for the rest of their touring career. That is pretty amazing.
I was hoping that they would go out and do some dates after Celebration Day but it was not to be. If they ever do, I will spare no expense to make sure I am there.
I am getting to see Guns & Roses next month. That was another sell a kidney to see them with original members show but luckily it’s only gonna cost me a couple hundred bucks and not a body organ.

The Yardbirds had Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton.. Didnt they at one point have all the members that eventually became Led Zeppelin at the same time? Wish I still had my ‘Rock and Roll Encyclopedia’ from the early 70’s!
