"While his ideas were morally right, they factually killed a bunch of people, and that's not something we wanted to promote. Unless you're killing yourself to combat climate change."

"While we stand by our decision to honor one of history's great men most vile mass murderers, we admit the banner lacked important historical context," said one Times editor. "While his ideas were morally right reprehensible, they factually killed a bunch of 76,000,000 people, and that's not something we wanted to promote. Unless you're killing yourself to combat climate change, and as many other people as necessary to save out planet for the children!"

The banner has been replaced with a large mural of Joseph Stalin who only murdered 69,000,000 people. You can clearly see the difference, especially since he is Democrat Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders hero.

"...to honor one of history's great men"

Pardon... But by any serious historians account, Mao was one of histories most infamous men and he was not 'great' in any way, shape or form.

Hanging a banner in his honor is the equivalent of hanging a banner in honor of Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, or even Pol Pot.

The NY Times is beyond redemption and they are morally bankrupt, but then again they have been for many decades, so this is just another example of their decline into oblivion.
