Need a picture of China back when everyone biked around. And only the political elite had cars.
Make America What China Was
Heres my suggestion. Be more Aware of you surroundings and/ or get a car. You still have to be aware of your surroundings only if you dont the penalties are lighter. OR move to Europe and stop bit*hing. This is America land of the free and home of the car and pickup.
Smug Stupid, Leftist Luddites in spandex are dodging about at 40mph, in traffic, ignoring all traffic laws, and getting converted into strawberry jam. Seems like natural selection, at work.
Thank you former know-it-all Mayor Bloomberg of New York. Your legacy is death and traffic congestion.
Vehicles move 99.99987% of people around cities, so ban cars.
It isn’t safe to bicycle in small towns either. Drivers do no see them.
Cyclists should be licensed and insured.
Let us see if we might discover the reason cyclist death are on the rise.
I would guess the first reason would be the number of people using bicycles could be related to a rise in accidents between bikes and cars.
I would guess a lot of these new bicyclist have not ridden a bike in years and just get on and go. If they ever knew how to ride safe they may have forgotten, but the chances are they never learned. Riding a bike in the suburbs is different then the big city.
It has been my observation that many who ride bikes do not follow the rules of the road. That is they do not stop at stop signs, they will go against a red light (if they think they can make it), they will enter into traffic between cars and so on.
Maybe the solution is to require a license to ride a bike in the city. Take a test that shows you know the rules of the road. And finally begin giving tickets to those on bikes that ignore those rules.
This is not to say drivers don’t have a responsibility as well. Bikes are hard to see at times but it is the drivers responsibility to drive safely.
1) Mandate the licensing of cyclists, but only after taking 16 hours of training and obtaining full liability insurance.
Are there any statistics on cyclist deaths in cities with Republican versus Democrat mayors?
In this suburb’s “major” city, Pittsburgh, PA, they have decreased parking, and made car lanes less wide. All for bicyclists. I see them when I am in the city, but there are not enough to justify their new perks. the cyclists that I see are a hazard. Saw one a few weeks ago with no lights, and wearing black, at night. Could hardly see him. They hog the road, they are a nuisance.
Here in Duluth your cyclists are hippy oddballs, fitness types and about 60% people with suspended licenses due to DUI.
The hippy types and the DUI guys all tend to wind up on the wrong side of the road.
Despite billions of dollars being spent to create beautiful bike trails, they avoid those and ride on roadways. I believe that the very laws designed to keep them safe are killing them. They feel empowered around cars because in many cases, they have been grated a certain right and the motorist must give them three feet. Reality doesn’t always allow for this and frequently foolish riders are not seen. Still, armed with this entitlement they blast around cars, get in cars way and just behave stupidly because after all, “they are in the right.” I once told one such fool that such an epitaph will look good on his tombstone.
Wait. You mean that white line that’s painted on the side of the road delineating the “bike path” doesn’t protect the bike rider?
The problem isn’t so much the cyclists but the DRIVERS these days. At what point did EVERYONE become an aggressive driver? I drive the speed limit or higher but I can’t go anywhere without someone riding my bumper the whole way. The power and safety of modern cars makes people think they can drive like a race car driver while talking on the phone. Then they wonder why cyclist are getting hit.
A healthy portion of blame lies with the elitist bicycle snobs dressed up in their spandex who demand to ride on the roadways since they somehow believe riding on a separate bike path is an indignity.
For their part, cyclists have a responsibility to be more careful as well.
I’ve seen far too many weaving in and out of traffic and blowing off red lights.
A sure recipe for disaster.
It doesnt help when I see this cyclists ignoring traffic and safety laws.
What am I saying. Those morons will take this seriously!
Mostly because cyclists ride like idiots.
