Normal Lear would have learned how to avoid that if he saw what modern day film and TV does. They simply create their lefty characters and make them Mary Sues, perfect in every way, universally acknoweldged as wodnerful by all the other characters, even those who should dislike them, and then have them do their lefty stuff while all the other characters praise them for how clever and forward thinkging they are.

Then we could have been treated to scripts like these:

Meathead: "Arch, Nixon went too far!He has to be removed."
Archie: "Gee, Mike. I never thought it could come to that but I guess you're right"
Meathead: "Don't worry, Arch. I'll help you get through this."
Archie: "Thanks Mike, I don't know what I'd do without you."
