Exactly!!! The only thing standing in their way are the millions of armed patriots that would just as soon shoot em as look at em. They’re scared spitless of em because they’re too much of a coward to go face-to-face combat. In order for them to pull off their coup, they must disarm the People. Anything otherwise, would only result in a bloodbath and a dismal failure....for them.
Naked use of force is no where near as effective as it once was. Kolakowski outlined resistance of unarmed people against an armed state. This non-violent resistance by Solidarity eventually put an end to Soviet power.
