Hey, he made it home safe, to collect more time towards his overpaid pension.

And that's all that matters.

“As the officer called out to the woman repeatedly concerning her welfare, the dog began to run towards the officer while barking. The officer walked backwards from the running dog while drawing his gun.”

What part of the fact that the officer was being rushed by a barking dog as he backed up, surely throwing him off balance, do you all not understand?  A barking dog was coming straight at him.  I wonder if the dog was a pit bull or other more predatory large dog.  Makes a difference as to response. Obviously the cop was feeling quite threatened by this charging dog coming right at him.

There are some real cop haters that hop on these threads.  I wonder why.

My substitute mail lady, a wonderful woman, was delivering a signature required letter to a woman who opened her door a crack to receive the letter as her pit bull dog lunged out of the partially opened door and bit the mail lady’s finger off, as well as biting her in the leg, All community service workers are frequently subject to attack by dogs. Their jobs are made infinitely more perilous by unnecessary run-ins with uncontrolled or loose animals.

You people (too many of you) weren’t there or put into a bad scenario not of your own choice, Lay off the Cops. Too many Freepers leap to judgment about circumstances these folks are placed into, without knowing how it really went down. It’s imminently obvious that this Cop was there with the best of intentions when suddenly circumstances changed and went south fast.

Too many of you are sounding just like Mayor Bill deBlasio in New York today as he called a press conference to condemn a Cop for doing his duty in trying to stop a huge man by wrestling him to the ground (along with his fellow Cops) a guy who was totally resisting arrest. A sickening example of a socialist Mayor pandering to Blacks (he’s married to a formerly lesbian Black woman) as he is running for President. The Cops all hate deBlasio as he never has their backs. Walk in a Cop’s shoes before casting aspersions their way.

“The officer was not hurt.”

What a great consolation prize. Thank you too much for your service!

You’d prefer him dead?

Did you watch the video??? It was a small dog...maybe 40# (people who knew her said it was still a puppy in other stories that I’ve seen).

THIS “COP” FIRED A WEAPON TO PROTECT HIMSELF FROM A SMALL DOG WITH ABSOLUTELY NO CONCERN FOR THE VICTIM WHO WAS OBVIOUSLY IN THE LINE OF FIRE. HE KNEW WHERE SHE WAS..HE COULD SEE HER & WAS TALKING TO HER PRIOR TO KILLING HER.

The average passerby with a permit to carry would correctly take a dog bite over shooting in this random fashion. The pup was concerned about his “person”who was ailing. This pussy should have retreated to his car & called for an emergency assist from Animal Control or his Mommy.

The fact that they have already released this very damning tape should give you a clue..if you don’t see the obvious, you need to rethink the entire way that you view reality.

Hard to say what really happened. The video is short. What’s the girl laying around outside for? I’ve been attacked by a German shepherd onetime and I was backing up and slipped on some ice. The dog had me pinned to the ground and was ready to tear me up. The dog had a bad reputation. My brother came out of the house and hit him with a bat. He never messed with us again. I remember thinking that I wished I had a gun at the time. The cop panicked obviously. Maybe one of the rounds ricocheted off the sidewalk. Who knows? There’s always two sides to a story.

Watch the body cam everyone. This situation really, really sucked.

The cop was trapped in a tiny green belt walkway with nowhere to go. He had to either risk taking a full on hit from a 40lb pissed off dog at full speed or defend himself with lethal force.

With a person behind his field of fire, a better decision would have been to not fire. But if you put yourself in his shoes for those few seconds from the start of the video and had to make a decision right when he did... can you say you wouldn’t have fired? I’m not saying he was right but it was scary as hell and it happened incredibly fast.

A person lying in a very strange and dangerous narrow place with no easy exit and no cover to take. A dog with no leash. No idea what’s going on. It was pretty terrible.

I’ve had a lot of dogs, I love dogs. But that situation... such a stackup of bad things all at once. A simple leash in that narrow corridor and that entire string of events over those 5 seconds or so didn’t need to happen at all.

Yup..so right. Battle situation where guys throw themselves on a grenade to save their friends.

In this situation, coward cop shoots victim to save himself from a 40# dog.

Thank God he made it out alive.

So you don’t like Cops much, do you. Hope you never need one in the future. By the way, the dog was a Lab, and pit bulls aren’t particularly big either, but they can be very vicious and those teeth they have can lock right on to any given body part, and not let go. As one did with my mail lady friend. He tore off her finger.

When you are dealing with a loose dog, you don’t know if it is friend or foe, especially when it is charging right at you while barking. Just like our soldiers have to deal with over in the Middle East. They never know if the Muzzie next to them is friendly or is laying in wait to blow them away. Just like that lady that was being chased by a Black bear a couple of days ago. She was lucky that the bear veered off and she lived to tell about it. I suppose you would have gone over and patted that friendly bear on the head. Self preservation kicks in, at least for most folks.

I guess you must be psychic to know that a charging dog you have no prior knowledge of is just heading your way to give you a big sloppy kiss rather than a vicious bite. Such insight. Go ahead, take the chance, just stand there and if it attacks you, well c’est la vie.

Like hell they would. No one in their right mind wouldn’t defend themselves. Oh, excuse me ... except you.

P.S. For many years I had a German Shepard, until the day she died. I love dogs; it appears you prefer them too, over human beings, or maybe just over Cops.

Obviously the cop was feeling quite threatened by this charging dog coming right at him.

Feelings don’t matter only the actual threat level matters. People are charged by barking dogs all the time. All this oanty wetting dumbass had to do was stop and see how close thw dog approached, and then taken it from there. He could have shot the dog from 6 inches if it came to it. This js negligent homicide at the least.

See my post 33; that says it all.

Coward who could see & was talking to the victim chose to shoot to save himself from a “possible” dog bite without concern for her welfare.

The fact that this tape has been released immediately while taking into account the demeanor of those at the press conference should tell you that NO ONE will be defending this stupidity...except for you, apparently.

The article clearly states it was a welfare check on a person, the dog was not reported and became a surprise encounter. If your statement was applicable, you’d have wanted the Animal Control officer responding to a welfare check?
