Newsom compared civilian rifles to nuclear weapons.
California Governor Gavin Newsom described commonly owned civilian semiautomatic rifles in sharp terms Monday, after one was used in a mass shooting in Gilroy, California.
Governor Newsom said that the semi-auto rifle was a “G** damn weapon of mass destruction.”
Santino Legan, 19, used a WASR10 semiautomatic rifle to kill 4 and wound 12 at a garlic food festival in northern California. The WASR10 is a “sporterized” AK-47 style rifle, a rough equivalent to the AK of an AR-15 to the military M16 rifle. Like the AR, it only has semi-auto fire capability, separating it from a true military-style assault rifle such as the AK-47 or M16.
The WASR10 is designated as an assault rifle under California law and banned, insofar as it includes a pistol grip and 30-round magazine. However, the shooter simply traveled to Nevada to buy a WASR from a Nevada gun shop, revealing the state’s laws to be simply ineffective when it comes to stopping malevolent and criminal individuals from buying rifles.
Speaking to reporters at a Santa Clara hospital, Newsom said that “you can’t put borders up, speaking of borders, to a neighboring state where you can buy this damn stuff legally. How in the hell is that possible? I have no problem with the 2nd Amendment, you have a right to bear arms but not weapons of goddamned mass destruction.”

Semi-automatic rifles are intended for the civilian market.
The FBI’s own statistics show that more people are killed every year with hammers than with semi-automatic rifles.
More people are killed with hands than with semi-automatic rifles.
More people are killed with feet than with semi-automatic rifles.
Meanwhile, 3,000 babies were killed by abortion on Monday. Another 3,000 on Tuesday. Another 3,000 today.

He then shot up the Stockton school yard, finally killed himself.
The shelved bill was pulled out and passed so fast no opposition could be mounted against it.

Back in 1934, an attempt was made to have handguns taxed along with machine guns, as the lawmakers said a RIFLE was better for home defense.
Now suddenly it is not?

But if you are buying it in NV anyway, why not just buy a typical ak? Why buy the single stack and convert it to double stack?

They’re converted by the importer. WASRs are less expensive than most other AKs. And US made AKs are mostly junk.

Incorrect. You can buy a long gun in any state if you are not a prohibited person. There is no federal law against it. There may be a few states with laws against it. I personally have purchased long guns in five or more states.
Pistols, you can buy but you have to take delivery from an FFL in your home state. I’ve had them shipped to my local gun shop.
What he did was legal until he brought the rifle into Kalifornia.
There are collectors in California that keep collections in Nevada. There are gun storage lockers you can rent there.
