A 6-year-old girl was killed Monday after she was hit by a golf ball on an Orem course.
The child was sitting in a golf cart on the cart path at the Links at Sleepy Ridge, 730 S. Sleepy Ridge Dr., when her father hit the ball that struck her on the back of her neck, according to Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge.
The 911 call came in at about 10:25 a.m., Colledge said.
She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and then flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she died from her injuries later that night.
Comment on this story The golf cart was neither directly behind nor directly in front of the girl's father, according to Colledge. He said the cart was between 45 and 90 degrees to the father's left.

1 in a million accident
Oh My God how horrible! The thoughts and prayers go out to this grieving family...
From now on it might be a good idea to have kids at least wear helmets on the golf course.
I once met a Methodist Minister whose young daughter also died after being hit by a golf ball.
Oh, my. That father...to live with that...how horrible.
My husband hit my sister with a tee shot She was standing to his left and he is a lefty.golf balls can go a little hinky.this is so sad.
Who parks a golf cart in front of their ball?
Somehow this brought back memories of a fifty five year old DICK TRACY comic strip episode in which this happens to a woman.
Or have a Father that knows not to have a golf cart in front of the ball...
Moms against golf?
Awful. Prayers up.
How awful. I feel so bad for the family, and especially for the father. I can’t imagine how he will live with that pain.
About twenty years ago I was on the links having a nice round but these guys behind us were “pushing” us. We weren’t slow, they were just in a hurry.
I was standing next to a green while my friend was putting. I heard this sound like a jet engine, then the next thing I knew I was lying on the ground. The ball hit my right front chest, at a glancing angle. If it had been direct I would have had more serious injuries. As it was I had three bruised ribs.
I got up and walked towards the guys behind us. Don’t remember what I said, but they were not in a hurry any more.
Prayers up for this family... So sad!
I have been a Putt Putt fan and player since early childhood, not many true Putt Putt courses left. Was invited to a pre-wedding golf outing several years ago and agreed to drive the cart rather than play, as I’d never played “real” golf before.
About half-way through, an inebriated groomsman talked me into teeing off for him.
I hit it hard, and about 35 degrees to the right, about a foot and a half away from another gold cart driver.
Never was interested in chasing a tiny ball longer than the next putting hole, and am now even less interested in playing “real” gold again.
How would a helmet help in this case? The poor thing was hit in the back of the neck.
Those poor parents.
Sad story. Dad had a bad pull hook. Probably had an over the top swing moment.
I once chipped up to a green and bounced a ball off the chest of a guy standing by the green which ricocheted into the hole. Kismet.
