May 2, 2019 (The Catholic Weekly) We are living in a unique time in history. Never has politics been so polarised, never has mainstream society come so near to amorality (although Neros Rome came close), and never has it been so difficult for a woman to find a good man.
The latter is, Ill admit, a bold claim but allow me to elaborate.
We constantly bemoan the state of society, the youth, universities, the media, et al, which seem to be collectively falling into ever deeper rabbit holes of noxious regressive ideas, behaviours and policies.
Religious affiliation and church attendance, especially among youth and men in particular, has never been lower. Pornography addiction is a scourge of epidemic proportions among men and even boys as young as 11. Put simply, the world is in a mess.
Youve heard it all before.
Yet one important side-effect of all this that gets little attention is how tough this new environment has become for women, especially Christian women, to find good husbands. The situation is so dire there is now an emerging trend of women abandoning their faith and religious beliefs for the sake of romantic relationships.
Perhaps this is not considered a particularly serious issue when compared with Brexit, abortion on demand or the erosion of free speech, but I would contend it is every bit as important, if not more so. The future of our society depends on good, solid marriages, families and citizens. We need families to produce educated and informed young men and women who will continue fighting the good fight on all the issues confronting our society.
Yet for someone like me a 32-year-old single Catholic the situation looks bleak indeed.

Anyone who doesn’t immediately laugh at that headline and know without reading it that it is completely BS is a bigger moron than any leftist.
Any woman dumb enough to believe any of it deserves to be a spinster.
Stupidest thing I’ve even seen REFERRED to anywhere on the internet in days.
Just the whining of somebody who expects all the members of the opposite sex to be perfect but ignore any and all of their flaws.
MAYBE if the person is seeking doctrinal, intellectual, economic, and moral perfection they are out of luck, well, cry me a river.
Lots of good guys out there, they just happen to NOT look like Tim Selleck in his prime with the voice of Mike Rowe , the bank account of Bill Gates and the doctrinal purity of Msgr. Charles Pope.
ummm, what do these women look like first before you blame us dudes?
This thread is useless without pictures.
I don’t promote myself as good. I’m a sinner saved by grace.
But I’m available in my 50’s. Kind of scared of marriage though.
Wrong! you find a man and make him good! That’s your Job. Bring out the best in him. Bring forth a child and let him see the joys of family life. Give him reasons to become a better person! It has always been so. Men bring chaos. women bring civilization. It doesn’t work for all men—just most of them.
Lady - maybe you haven't been keeping up with current events.
It's Seattle.
hypergamy has always been something women face, but I agree its probably worse in an age of pornography, constant entertainment, legalized weed, fake money and massive debt.
She said she wants a man who is worldly wise? I am unsure what that means, it seems she wants church going Biblically literate man who also partakes of the world? I am young, conservative and single, but since I had a face slightly above that of Marty Feldman I get zero offers from single women.
I had a widow friend who told me trying to find a good man was like driving through a parking lot where all the spaces were marked Handicapped.
She committed suicide.
I’m not joking.
Yeah, I’m have diabetes and she clearly likes to bake.
Learn to code!
Oops, wrong reply.
Get a cat!
I think she meant wise to the wiles of the world.
Article says she and her sirens are looking for single, church-going, worldly-wise (no dorkfishes) men aged 25-35. Theyre giving up the church to date university professors and whoever sounds interesting on-line. Read it if ya dont believe me!
Theyre right there ready to snapped up!
My wife died nearly two years ago and I have recently started the dating scene.
Most of the women I have met in my area have been married before (at least once) and are currently cheating on their partner.
I found someone that I really hit it off with, but she too has been married twice before and her friends all are after another guy, while ‘supposedly’ with a current boyfriend.
Could not end that relationship fast enough. She sure loved the free meals though.
Worldly wise -means richer than she is.
I believe the joke goes that men are like parking spots. All the good ones are taken, and only handicapped ones remain.
Why would any man want to marry in this legal climate?
