Kamala Harris was born October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California, to a Tamil Indian mother and a Jamaican father. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a breast cancer scientist who immigrated to the United States from Madras in 1960.
Her father, Donald Harris, is a Stanford University economics professor who emigrated from Jamaica in 1961 for graduate study at University of California, Berkeley.
Harris's parents divorced when she was seven, and her mother was granted custody of the children by court-ordered settlement.
After the divorce, when Harris was 12, her mother moved with the children to Montreal, Québec, Canada, where Shyamala accepted a position doing research at Jewish General Hospital and teaching at McGill University.
After graduating from Westmount High School in Westmount, Quebec in 1981, Harris attended Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in political science and economics.
From 1960 to 1964, U.S. immigration law was governed by the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.
A 1962 guideline explained procedures under the Act:
"The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 requires an alien to apply for a petition for naturalization. This form may be obtained from any office of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, a division of the Department of Justice, or from any court authorized to naturalize aliens.
Before applying, an alien must be at least 18 years old and must have been lawfully admitted to live permanently in the United States. He must have lived in the United States for five years and for the last six months in the state where he seeks to be naturalized. In some cases, he need only have lived three years in the United States..."
How did Shyamala Gopalan Harris and/or Donald Harris become naturalized citizens in less than 5-years for Kamala Harris to be a natural born citizen?
Why do people keep calling her black? She has light tan skin and BROWN straight hair. I have a black ancestor. I don’t call myself “black”.
“Kamala Harris was born October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California”
Won’t convince the birthers.
Surely, this will be reviewed by the DNC, and Nancy Pelosi will not sign off on Kamala as a certified eligible candidate (as she did for Obama) without being certain this is all OK.
/S
and PS: Any protests about this will be rejected by the courts as not being ripe, timely, or having proper standing, because she will not have been elected. And after, it would be a Republican attempt to “reverse an election.”
I read a legal document once that spoke of “firearms”, and in the “definitions” section of the document it actually defined what was meant by the use of the word “firearms” in the document. In that definition was knives.
One of the flaws in our constitution is that it doesn’t do that with the phrase “natural born citizen”, leaving a path for some to twist it to mean anything they want.
To me, it means BOTH of your parents are American citizens and you grew up in the US. I even allow for you to be born off of US soil if your parents were on vacation at the time, or working for the US or otherwise temporarily overseas.
But Kamala was born to two foreign nationals at the time. That is not what I’d call “natural born citizen”.
But that’s just me. I’m sure Rachel Maddow would have a different take on it.
Yes.
You can stomp your feet and scream "Vattel!!!" all you want but this is the only answer that will ever be applied to the question of Harris' eligibility.
No.
No one in the GOP will have the heart to fight this battle
It is not a question of citizenship.
It is about the meaning of natural born citizen stated in the constitution. You know that old faded piece of parchment that was the production of the convention?
And it is supported by the naturalization act.
The issue is undivided loyalty. A thing few ComDems could accept.
Until it is fully litigated, the assumption will continue to be that yes, she is a natural born citizen eligible to become President of the United States.
Elisabeth Wampum calls herself a native American, which is correct by early 20th century definitions, since you were a native if born here, but is she an Aboriginal American?
Thus, Kamala, being born in California, is an American by birth.
Birther thing isnt going to help. After the insane spectacle of the Wednesday and Thursday “debates” the thing that is going to do in the Dems is the sheer batshit crazy of the whole lot of them. We don’t need to be saving them by making the GOP looks nuts.
She’s definitely a natural born imbecile.
No, she is NOT NBC.
And nobody who matters will do anything about it.
Besides, shes a smug whiney cow. Only middle-aged men seem to like her. That will get her money and good press, but shes going to fall flat with the voters.
Jeez, if one of my descendants was black you can be sure I would be using that on EVERY form I filled out.
She sounded so tough interviewing people in her senate panel, but that is because they had to be polite at all times and not call her out on her lunacy.
If she becomes the nominee, Trump will not give her that luxury.
The answer is no she is not a natural born citizen. They can elect her president or queen of the universe or whatever. They can tell all the lies they want about her but the truth is she is not and never will be a natural born citizen of the United States.
