Not quite:
If you have Group Policy Editor (run gpedit.msc) then go to Disable Windows 10 Updates using Group Policies and follow the instructions.
If you do not have W/10 Pro (I do, thank God) or an Enterprise edition then you need Group Policy Editor, for which you may want to see https://www.ghacks.net/2019/01/07/how-to-enable-gpedit-msc-group-policy-on-windows-10-home-devices/ . I can only presume this is not contrary to your MS license.
“If you do not have W/10 Pro (I do, thank God)”
Yeah, I do to
Not a lot of difference btwn Home and Pro, and I was expressing thanks for even having Windows and a computer. I ended up with W/10 Pro as a result of upgrading years ago from XP to Win. 8 for 29.00 (after the rebate Visa card), and apparently it was on the Retail path. Then MS offered a free upgrade to W/8.1 and then to W/10, and which took place across two different computers and 3 different mobos. But apparently since it was on the Retail path then that was allowed (though for a time I think MS allowed transfers of W.8.1 on even the OEM path, which ordinarily means the OS is "married" for life to the mobo). Thus for 29.00 I have W.10 Pro.
And I have tried most all major and some minor Linux installations and found them lacking in the degree of functionality and customization that I can easily get under Windows, which carried a heavy work load (on a system with a 4.2Ghz CPU and 16Gb RAM). Thank God I can have such.
Thank you!!!!
I’ll take Linux over Windows. Turn the computer on and start using it.
With Windows 10, turn the computer on and when MS tells you they are thru with it, you might be able to. If the update didn’t wreck something.
Even Windows 7 had problems with updates causing things to not work.

Nor will they they want you to buy into the cloud based program- i quit updating the full photoshop right before they went to cloud-
dual boot- linux as main os- windows as secondary- windows 7 that is- use it for programs that ya need to run windows only software on- I use it for an online racing game i do- plus for Photoshop, and windows only off line games- but Linux is my main os- what i use all day long- till evening, when i switch to windows for the racing game or Photoshop work
Which leads to:
Enter Windows 10 Update Switch (Switch10)
I created Switch10 to disable Windows 10 updates quickly and efficiently, but also made it easy to enable updates if needed; because sometimes you want to update your computer. After consulting with the all-knowing Google, I found that the easiest method to Disable Windows 10 updates is to disable and stop the Windows Update service.
However, here are two more ways that are offered to stop W/10 updates. As for me, I have updates paused for 35 days (Start>Settings>Windows update), and chose the semi-annual channel (targeted), and I can also choose to delay updates of new capabilities and improvements for up to a year, and quality/security updates for 30 days.
My problem is that I can’t find what is restarting wuauserv after I disable it.
Between my husband and I we probably have 5-10 windows 10 devices all set for auto update. We’ve never had a problem.
1 - Winaero Tweaker: You can download it from their website at Winaero. When you download and install it, you'll need to find the option for stopping Windows 10 from updating, check the box, then restart. I always make it a habit to check Winaero Tweaker every time I boot into Windows 10 to ensure it's still checked cuz once in the past Microsoft somehow turned it off, but I think that was my mistake.
2. Registry
a. Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.
b. Type regedit, and click OK to open the Registry.
c. Browse to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
d. Right-click the Windows (folder) key, select New, and then click on Key.
e. Name the new key WindowsUpdate and press Enter.
f. Right-click the newly created key, select New, and click on Key.
g. Name the new key AU and press Enter.
h. Right-click the newly created key, select New, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.
i. Name the new key NoAutoUpdate and press Enter.
j. Double-click the newly created key and change its value from 0 to 1.
k. Click the OK button.
Check those out, see what you think. So far they've worked for me, and there is also a tool that can be acquired that can download updates just for the version of Windows 10 that you're using called "Windows Update MiniTool." I always turn off Winaero Tweaker, restart, then use that tool to download and install any updates for the version of Windows 10 (1709) that I'm using, then I turn Winaero Tweaker back on and restart again.
This is good. I’m copying it so that I can test on some VM’s.
thank!
so my windows updates are failing with Error 0x80080008.
Do any of you know how to fix that?
A web search for Error 0x80080008 returns this:
“Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft forums.
From the issue description, I understand that you are getting the error 0x80080008 when you are trying to install Windows updates on the computer.
This issue occurs because the Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is installed incorrectly.
Method 1:
If you have automatic updating turned on, the latest version of the Windows Update Agent is downloaded and installed automatically on your computer.
If you do not have automatic updating turned on, follow these steps to obtain the latest version of the Windows Update Agent:
a. Open Control Panel, and then tapping or clicking Windows Update.
b. Tap or click Change settings.
c. Under Important updates, choose Install updates automatically.
d. Under Recommended updates, select the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box, and then click OK.
Method 2: Also, follow these steps to start the Windows Update service
a. On the Start screen, type cmd. Alternatively, swipe in from the right, tap or click Search, and then type cmd.
b. Tap or click cmd in the search results.
c. At the command prompt, type the following commands, and press Enter after each command:
net start bits
net start wuauserv
Hope this helps.
Please post back if the issue persists and we will be glad to assist you “
