Long story short, and I was planning to write a whole story about it, but a friend of my daughter's was at our house yesterday (Memorial Day); I haven't seen her in many months (my daughter is at college, her friend is just finishing her junior year in high school).

The friend wants to do art, and I pretty much figured her as lost to liberalism, like her older sister.

To my shock and surprise, she's turned into a huge conservative, like my daughter! I've known her since she was three or four years old; she's two years younger than my daughter. We spent the whole afternoon talking about conservative/liberal stuff.

So I asked her "can you remember how you first found out about conservatism, about the liberal/conservative divide?"

She answered immediately, and with one word: "Pewdiepie!"

I know about Pewdiepie from my daughter, who's been a huge fan of his since she was in middle school, or before.

For those of you who don't have young daughters, Pewdiepie is this gigantic YouTube phenomenon. He was the subject of some controversy a few years ago; the WSJ had an article in which he was disparaged as a proto-Nazi.

Apparently, Pewdiepie has Ben Shapiro on his show as a guest, and that's the route by which my daughter's friend found out about Shapiro, and about conservatism.

I asked her "so what was it about Ben Shapiro that you liked, that made you think about becoming a conservative?" and she immediately said "because he wins every argument!"

This girl was born in 2002; my daughter was born in 2000.

That is great to hear. Do you know if she was into liberalism before taking this conservative turn, or was she neutral? Just wondering if this was a conversion or a first awakening, so to speak. David Horowitz is one of my favorite conversion stories, btw.

Their side has Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, and every other late night entertainer.

Their side has 95% of outspoken entertainers in television and movies.

Their side has 95% of outspoken entertainers in music.

Their side does entertainment which attracts tens of millions of viewers, who get a bit of politics and world-view thrown in. They do NOT refer to themselves as liberal.

Their side does news, but does not refer to it as liberal.

Our side does almost zero entertainment (relatively) and when we do news, we always lable it conservative.

1. Let’s stop being stupid, create some entertainment, and add our worldview as an unhighligted add-on to the entertainment.

2. Let’s stop labelling our news as conservative. Just call it news.

3. Let’s stop being reactionary and start being aggressive and clever.

That’s great, we need more conservative artists if we’re ever going to take back our culture. I hope she stays the course, it’s not easy to be a conservative artist in college these days.

My son -born in 2001-and his friends all love Ben Shapiro. He is their hero. Being conservative is rebellious now.
