i am not into these movies. i saw Iron Man when it first came out, and enjoyed it...but the whole Marvel Universe has turned into a soap opera with capes.
Guardians of the Galaxy is fun, and the Captain America was decent... yet the whole “cult” built around these flicks seems to show how illiterate we have become as a culture.
Seriously. I mean, I wasn’t a “Harry Potter” fan, but at least THOSE films were based on written material—books that had MEAT on the bones. This stuff, while THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE (not slamming it per se) is based on COMIC BOOKS.
I have guilty pleasures, too, so don’t get me wrong. My point is this Marvel junk (Warner Brothers has their own set of lunacy) is driving too many lives...some people obsess about it.
Yet we remain (as a society) completely ignorant of great literature like Pilgrim’s Progress, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, The Brothers Karamazov, Tom Sawyer, or, well, any fine bit of story telling that goes deeper than fireballs in the sky and smirky retorts to bad guys.
Not good.
Marvel Comics always were soap opera. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby had done time working on romance comics.
The long drama of Aunt May’s health. The hardships of dating while you are a superhero and The Green Goblin killing your girlfriend.
