Nice link. Thanks.
Very cool video and meaningful to me. My dad wasn’t in this but he would have been 10, about the age of many of those kids. Lost him about 6 years ago but its interesting to have a glimpse of life as he may have lived it.
I thought the same. My Dad would have been 11. Some of the boys in the video appear to be in our Dad’s age group.
Interesting comment captured on mic at around 4:50 when Hoover and wife step out on the balcony.
“Somebody pull a gun on him and see what happens...”
Thank you so much for posting. Little did those people know that within a few months th stock market would crash, starting g the great depression.
“You know, when the stock market crashed, FDR didn’t go on TV and roll an Easter Egg...” - Uncle Joe (kinda)
LOL
:)
And it was only what, about 200 points or so? - but that was a big margin.
People don't realize it but on that very day, Hoover had about a pound and a half of prime rib roast (medium rare) along with butternut squash, brussels sprouts, shrimp cocktail and a full two bottles of mead along with a healthy slice of pumpkin pie for dessert. Not a bad Easter meal.
Thanks for posting this. It’s always fun to look back.
Now we know where the crowds whooping it up and hamming it up for the camera started — 90 years ago when sound was added to film.
My Mom would have been 2 and Dad would have been 5. Mom was in Idaho and Dad was just about to move with his family from NYC tenements up to Westchester County.
Love the kid in the bunny costume reciting “Sing a Song of Sixpence” and “Hey Diddle Diddle” — I read those to my kids when they were little 25 - 30 years ago. Do today’s young parents read those old nursery rhymes to their kids?
Probably no more than 1 person still alive.
Interesting to see the first one. My daughter won a lottery ticket for this year’s Easter Egg roll and is on the way now with her daughter. She and her friends get to be in the 9:45 am group. Her friend and her kids went to the first Trump Easter Egg roll in 2017 and their photos ended up on Time magazine and a lot of other publications, along with Fox News.
I love Guy Jones, I subscribe to his channel. Hes done wonders with those old films. This was really nice, thanks for posting.
