Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg calls for more regulation of the internet

"I believe we need a more active role for governments and regulators," he wrote.

His call comes as US federal prosecutors are reportedly probing Facebook's data sharing deals with a number of large technology companies. The US Federal Trade Commission is said to be in talks with Facebook over a possible record fine. And European officials continue to scrutinize the company.

Zuckerberg called for regulators to hold internet companies "accountable for enforcing standards on harmful content," an idea that has served as a point of contention in the United States and other countries where social media platforms have long been immune from such legal punishments.

"Our systems would be more effective if regulation created common standards for verifying political actors," he said.

Zuckerberg also called for a "global framework" for data privacy regulations modeled on the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation.

Open that Pandora’s box and we are all doomed.

Follows much the same route as Russia wanting to cut itself off from the internet. Most of US cable news is nothing but a DNC commercial and social media is banning most conservative views. Heck, Trump supporters get accosted in certain restaurants, school and in some areas outside their front doors.

"Our systems would be more effective if regulation created common standards for verifying political actors," he said.

Translation: Crush the little people who want their voice to be heard; allow only the designated Political Elite to have their say.

He’s willing and able to pay whoever needs to be paid, so why should he care? Government regulation equals graft, kickbacks and influence peddling. That’s how so many dangerous drugs get FDA approval, and phony fuel mileage standards are certified. Trusting the government to get it right is foolhardy.

Actually he’s doing a very effective job of passing the buck. He basically said you can’t expect FB to block the Russian trolls without a government database saying who the Russian trolls are. And then went the same route with data sharing, “needing” a “global framework” so they can figure out what not to sell. It’s a total briar patch move.

I’m still trying to understand just what that sentence actually means. Is he saying people on FB shouldn’t be political? At what point do you become a “political actor”?

Either the guys is a complete fascist or he’s so incredibly naive he really believes government control over everything is a good idea...which would be pretty hypocritical consider how he made his billions.
