Part of the jet’s landing gear ripped away and ended up wedged in the cowling of one of the turbofan engines. The nose cone also was damaged.

Uh, it didn’t stop in the allotted distance. That’ll be $10,000.00 Thanks.

Oh for goodness sake. This accident is just another result of Global Warming. Or Climate Change, if you prefer.

Back in 1990 Al Gore said, and I quote, “Within 30 years Global Warming will cause jets to slide off runways.”

Yes, when power on to advance?

But when I pull into my driveway, I take my foot off the gas. Maybe with the hard landing, the pilot accident floored it?

I think some have a reverse thrust mechanism, but that would repel?

I wasn’t a “sudden unintended acceleration” incident was it? I thought that was put to bed years ago. :-)

Sounds slippery.

I still bear the scars of a dumb attempt to ride a road bicycle through a snow drift, about ten years back.

I was startled to discover how quickly you decelerate in two feet of soft fresh snow. Narrow tires and all.

All I can think of is the unfortunate woman, killed in flight by flying chunk of a fan or something.

You need to dig deeper to find the root cause. I’ll go with slippery white precipitation on the runway.

Imagine being the passenger in that window seat. Immediate bowel evacuation, for sure.

“sudden unintended acceleration”

The dream of drag racers everywhere.
And Audi’s nightmare.

Brought to you by the Aholes at ‘60 minutes’.

Umm, no! They have a shield that comes up/diverts the thrust from behind the engine. Engine never reverses.

Doesn’t seem an engine would generate enough suction to inhale heavy main gear.

More likely the gear broke free of it’s mountings, but remained attached to the plane by wiring and hydraulic lines, causing it to swing up and come to rest in front of the engine.

When the NTSB reports we will know.

A guess, the pilot powered up to abort, about the time something broke off his landing gear???
A pure guess.
More likely a bad bounce.
