Today’s Cryptogram

XTGRV ILMVHD YRV QKDL JXLMW QMNLD MV QMIWRWMLD. JXLO KTHXJ JK IL ZRWVLS. DRTQ ILQQKZ

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own. The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram). Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles. Puzzle solvers love to hear if you found the CG challenging or easy.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS: brain; cryptogram; puzzle; todayscryptogram
If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under two "you're a pro!"

Those of you looking for an added challenge can try to solve one sentence or even one word at a time, i.e. solve the entire first line, then go to the second line etc.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

A little harder for me today. What broke it loose was deciding what the third word was. I made that guess because there was only one "Y" in the cryptogram. For a three-letter word in that position, I didn't think that it could be anything else.

That led to the first word, which meant that the second word could only be one thing. That gave me the sixth word, which gave me the author. From there, it was a matter of filling in the blanks.

Less than 3...’guessed’ correctly on the ‘J X’, got the T in first word and rolled after that...

I definitely am getting to cocky...can expect to be ‘slapped down’ for the next 5 or 6 <: <: <:

Thank you for posting one cryptogram a day. Now, with a daily fix, I'm not tempted now to buy a book of them and do nothing else for a week.

I like to write out the cryp for myself before solving it. That way, patterns emerge on their own.

This is without a doubt the weirdest one yet.
4 minutes, started with the “e” as most frequent and a guess at the second most frequent, then things started to fall into place.

Yes, when in doubt go to Hal and find the “E” and the “T” etc.

I don’t wait for doubt. Maybe some day I’ll be confident enough to join the paper & pencil brigade but that time isn’t now.

It’s always that way. One minute flying with the clouds, the next sitting ignobly in the dust.

This one took me a couple of hours. The trick for me was getting the first word of the second sentence, which shared the same first three letters with a word in the first sentence.

Good job hanging in there! Did you use Hal? In not, you should when you’re stumped.
