Back in 1971, the concept of a serial killer was still pretty new.
Charles Manson and Zodiac were seen as aberrations; Charles Whitman and Richard Speck were spree killers. Ted Bundy, then age 25, was working at the Seattle Suicide Hotline. Richard Ramirez was 11, and was starting to get life lessons from his murderous brother Miguel.

Though outwardly a macho Mexican illegal...a man with a wife and children...Corona was a predatory homosexual
and a brutal sadist. His murder victims were all male and all were sexually assaulted before being killed.

They weren’t new. Albert Fish in the 30s. Ed Gein in the 50s. Famous serial killers (or even killer clans) in Europe in the 19th and 20th century as well.
