As part of her signature “Be Best” initiative, First Lady Melania Trump is encouraging families across the country to educate their children about the realities and dangers of drug use, especially the opioid epidemic.

She’s had those same conversations with her own son, 12-year-old Barron Trump, she said Tuesday at an opioid crisis town hall in Las Vegas hosted by Eric Bolling.

“I teach him,” Melania told Bolling about Barron. “I try to explain how drugs are dangerous and it will mess up your head, it will mess up your body and nothing comes positive out of it.”

That’s great but not enough in my opinion. peer pressure can be stronger than parental pressure and most kids are going to do what their friends do. What can a parent do?

In a Cleveland public elementary school about a month ago, a young child distributed marijuana-laced candy from home. Nine children had to go to the hospital.

Think about that. With legalized marijuana, it can be out in the open. With it out in the open, no child is safe.

Is Melania the only person talking about the drug epidemic and its effect on children? On a positive note, on NBC this AM the reporting about her initiative was very positive and supportive.

Every time I see some meth-hear or addict of any kind in the news, vagrant, living on the street, police photo, I point them out to my kids and tell them, Drugs don’t start you out here, but you’ll end up here.

Fortunately we live in flyover country and while there’s still availability here, it’s nothing like the urban inner cites.

I liked the way Trump put it. Something to the effect of: Life is a competition and once you’re hooked on alcohol or drugs it’s game over.

Chubaka was such a let down every time she addressed anyone or anything!!

Oh I saw her picture on the new stand on a magazine last month, I swear it her face was enhanced big time. It did not look like her.

Godfather....

You’re right. Parents are at a huge disadvantage when it comes to peer pressure exerted on teens. Parents have to engage their kids on a regular basis, require detailed information about where they’re going and who they will be with, and reach out to other parents and share information with them to build a trusted network of like minded parents who are all on the lookout for drug and alcohol use. Even then anything can happen.

Invite Duterte to the White House and tell him to bring videos of how he deals with drugs in the island nation he rules.

I loved Eric Bolling——glad to see he is coping with his own tragedy in this way.

#1 is always example. #2 is making them feel loved and valued and good people without oppressive expectations for achievement. #3 is helping them to have more positive priorities, friends and direction. #4 is keeping a reasonably watchful eye on them, rather than going overboard with giving them more free time with the wrong people, etc., than they can handle.

How’s that? Combining them all together might look like helping them host their friends with wholesome activities in your home.

Melania probably saw her share of young, beautiful women destroyed by drugs in the modeling biz.

I remember when I was in high school, which was in the 60’s. My freshman year we were all herded into the auditorium to watch a movie. The movie was about drugs and it was very graphic. It showed people with syringes In their arms, laying in doorways, comatose and the bodies of people who had bruises everywhere from shooting up. The narrative was terrifying and more than enough to know to never touch drugs.

THIS would never be used now because it would be too traumatic for the snowflakes. The parents would sue.
