What is now referred to as Lockheed Martin is the result of a merger/purchase between the two former companies, Martin-Marietta and Lockheed. Pretty sure the combined company did not exist until after the airport was built. Wanted to make sure of the distinction in the event someone was digging into records and/or other history of the facility. The skunkworks was part of the legacy Lockheed company. Started by Kelly Johnson. they worked on things like the SR-71 and U2. At least those are the revealed projects. Very likely many other black programs.
