Kelsie Bryson says the excruciating migraines started around 2008, when she was 18 years old.
They would come about once a month and cause what the now 28-year-old Bryson calls really terrifying side effects.
I would experience numbness in the right side of my body including in my mouth, which would prevent me from talking for 15 or so minutes at a time vomiting and confusion, she told Global News.
I would be at work, and suddenly, it would be hard to read words or speak. I would bump into things and then my body would go numb. I even went to the hospital once because the numbness on my right side lasted for about six hours.
Finally, a doctor told Bryson that her symptoms were likely caused by the birth control pill she was on and advised her to stop using it. After taking the pill for eight years, she went off.
The migraines stopped completely for a few years; I maybe get one every 18 months now, she said. My cramps definitely worsened [being off the pill], but its worth not having the migraines.
Bryson is one of many women who have gone off the birth control pill in recent years.
According to a survey by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, the number of women on the pill has dropped. In 2006, 39 per cent of women over 30 said they used oral contraceptives; as of 2016, just less than 16 per cent said they did.
Reported side effects, paired with growing interest in non-hormonal birth control, are some of the reasons why fewer women are taking the pill today . . .

They’re getting older.
No need when you’re not getting laid.
Really? They would never need them in the first place if their head was screwed on straight, not so concerned about promiscuity.
I’m sure each one could service 6 of us without a sweat. That leaves 5 women holding out.
I think there is a link between the Pill and cerebral aneurysms also. But, like the link between abortion and breast cancer, the “experts” prefer to pretend that the link doesn’t exist.
It was the NE Journal of medicine that established that link. Got jumped on.
Are the likely side effects being concealed from most women?
I would think they’d be common knowledge by now.
I recall some girls years ago saying the pills made them feel sick. This was back in the 70’s and 80’s.
Maybe it’s still a matter of not thinking to second-guess their doctor’s orders.
If any medicine I’m on is changed or adjusted, I ask a lot of questions. Those questions I think of late into the night, I look up on the ‘net.
I used to have frequent migraines, but nothing as severe as this poor gal.
That's because the pills impact hormone-sensitive tissue, which ALSO means that, conversely, the Pill --- like abrtion --- increases the risk of breast cancer, because the mammary glands are hormone-sensitive.
They'll never admit that, because the liability lawsuits would bankrupt the whole industry.
Not to mention cancer, and infertility problems.
Maybe that will cause more American babies.
if they read the pharmacy drug pamphlet included they would know all the side effects. I think many people never read those things and just take drugs. silly.
Due to bc pills , I had 3 strokes at a young age . I then had a blood clot go from my left leg , eventually to my lung . Spent 12 hours on the floor on deaths door . The next day the dr. I went to said I probably would have died if Id been in the hospital.
All birth-control is the evil Of this world

There are a lot of medical reasons that woman young and older are prescribed ‘birth control pills’—which is how they first came out. They are fundamentally hormones and regulated hormones . Thus can help and alter many other ‘female’ conditions.
Actually that’s inaccurate. There are many women that take birth control pills for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with birth control. For example if a woman is having problems with the timing of her ‘time of the month,’ she make take them to regulate her period and get it and her ovulation back on track. Just one example.
“Rings catch girls; babies trap boys.”
The real dark truth about Satans triumph over lifes insidious underbelly is the pill. While many pretend to be pro-life precious few really are. Most birth control pills act as abortifacients...they allow conception (human life with an immortal soul begins!}) but they prevent the tiny human lives from implanting (murder of the innocent!) Think of how many lives have been flushed down the toilet in the last 50 years. What the real number of innocents slaughtered vis a vis birth control is utterly staggering. Humane Vitae was frighteningly prophetic. The Jesuits were instrumental in ensuring that millions of Catholics, bishops and clergy and laity would reject it. Now look at our culture and our Church. Vocation crisis? Surely you jest. God will not be mocked. You reap what you sow.
