Does any one here subscribe to Chronicles? I am looking for conversation. opinion, disagreement.
Used to but got fed up with pedantic stuck up liberals pretending to know it all.It calls itself the “magazine of american culture.” It is anything but. Just another rabid leftist rag.
Huh?
You are joking.
Seriously.
Very nice writing.
Very interesting subject matter.
Not a fan of endless war, perhaps that is your issue?
Thank you for saving me the effort of checking it out. Much appreciated!
I dont know what he is drinking, but Chronicles is paleo Conservative, small government, no endless war, culturally rich.
I had a subscription to Chronicles for decades. Chronicles is the flagship publication of The Rockford Institute. I enjoyed the articles by Chilton Williamson and Michael Hill...I eventually dropped most of my mag subscriptions when I got my first computer around 1998 or so.
Its interesting. Some good, some bad. But worth reading from time to time - can you get an online subscription?
I get First Things and Crisis online. Both excellent magazines, although I dont agree with everything...but then, thats why you bother to read magazines. Reading them exposes you to other thought, and if you choose the publication carefully, the thought will be within your spectrum even if you dont agree with everything. It will challenge you to defend yourself better.
Chronicles mag is edited by Roger Kimball, an art critic who has written for National Review (a Never Trump mag). He’s an intellectual but he writes frequent positive articles about Trump at American Greatness. They try to appeal to the intellectual and artistic crowd. They don’t like what has happened to American culture since the 1960’s. While the content of their articles would appeal to FR readers the intellectual and literature style might not. John Seiler writes for them and he has written for several conservative websites. If using high brow words and style doesn’t bother you, it is recommended.
I also read first things, City Journal,
I think you can get an online subscription these days. Not sure, it is my evening guilty pleasure reading.
I don’t subscribe to Chronicles but pick it up at my local bookstore. I read it regularly.
It is worth the price of the subscription. I have enjoyed it for about 15 years. They have changed a lot over the years.
I even let my subscription to Super Chevy lapse let alone anything that had no pictures and lots of text.
I did for a number of years, long ago. Until I finally figured out what they really were.
They think Monarchy is an acceptable form of government. When I found that out, I was through.
They did have some interesting articles about history.
They have changed a lot
You might want to revisit.
City Journal is very good. I think a lot of people on FR dont understand that you dont read something just to be reinforced in your own thought, but to have different views of that thought.
That is, I wouldnt read a liberal rag, because it would be preposterous in its fundamental premises. But Id read a less than perfect (whatever that is) conservative one because wed be starting more or less from the same point and going more or less to the same point...but we might reach different conclusions and choose different landing points, or we might choose the same point but get there by different means. Either way, it makes you think, articulate and defend your own views and that can only be good.
I didnt think the left ever does this, mostly because deep down inside they know theyre wrong...
That is one!
