Festus was probably the main reason I liked Gunsmoke.
He was plucky comic relief.
In real life, he was accomplished as a singer iirc.

I agree with: Spock, Sheldon Cooper, and Fonzie
Would also add:
— Dr. Bones McCoy
— Dr. Zachary Smith (Lost in Space)

I agree completely. I don’t know how true it is, but I read somewhere that many of the other ‘NYPD Blue’ actors were jealous of Franz’s salary jump. And that’s why some of them left the show.

I was going to say the same thing. Urkel was suppose to be a one time character. Heck the show went from a sitcom to a sci-fi sitcom because of Urkel.

Sheldon?
The story revolved around him, Leonard, and Penny.
The character changed to be sure, to make the show “work” but I am not seeing him as breakout.

I love how he always hands his gun to the POWs when he needs to use both of his hands.

Niles Crane.
I’ve often thought David Hyde Pierce who plays Niles would be a hoot cast as a fussy, prissy uncle to Sheldon Cooper. Birds of a feather, apple-tree and all that.
