Apple is a great company," Trump said during his news conference. "Look, I have to worry about our country. Don't forget, Apple makes the product in China."
I told Tim Cook, who's a friend of mine who I like a lot, make your product in the United States," Trump added. "Build those big beautiful plants that go on for miles. Build those plants in the United States. I'd like that even better. Apple makes its product in China. China is the biggest beneficiary of Apple ... because they build their product mostly in China.
Trump, who is notably an iPhone user, does appear to be a fan of Apple. While it's unclear whether Cook also considers him a friend, Trump has made it clear that he likes the Apple CEO.
Apple publicly warned last year that Trumps tariffs on China would increase the price of its products. The Trump administration responded by exempting Apple products from the tariffs. Still, the threat of retaliation from China against Apple due to Trumps trade war lingers in the air.
Trump, however, wasnt finished with his Apple comments. But now, [Cook is] investing $350 billion because of what we did with taxes and the incentives that we created in the United States, "Trump said. "Hes going to build a campus and lots of other places.
My focus is the United States," he added. "I want to get those companies to come back like so many are doing into the United States. I want Apple to make their iPhones and all of the great things that they make in the United States and that will take place.

“While it’s unclear whether Cook also considers him a friend, Trump has made it clear that he likes the Apple CEO.”
But I have read all over the news that Trump hated gays, and after the election they were all in a panic about mass arrests, and him striping them of civil rights.
HA! Who in the U.S. is going to work for 75 cents an hour?
Sooo...new iphone sells for a grand here...what’s the cost to make in China?
If Apple starts making them in the USA they will cost 2000 instead of 1000.
I use a Samsung unlocked several year old android smart phone that I paid $300 for. Works well enough for me.

Nice, and smart, of Trump to “talk up” Apple.
So many people invested in China didn’t believe the Preident meant what he said and would do it.
Well, it is a new way of leading!
Apple loves it’s 99% profit
“Apple loves its 99% profit
“
I think that unless they do something different with their product line, their profits may well be on the wane. I have an iPhone X that’s just about a year old. Apple is pinging me all the time to “upgrade” to a “new phone. I don’t begin to use the features of the phone I have. I just imagine that this is a program to address their unsold inventory problem ( and keep us paying ad infinitum). Sorry Tim, I don’t need a new phone every 12 months.
Robots
I’m not about to pay $1,000 for a stupid phone to call my bookie, when I can pick up a flip phone for $9.95 from Walmart.
Make a $9.95 phone, Apple, if you want my business. I don’t need a scan app to buy a stupid peanut butter cup candybar. I carry $1 bills for that.
Steve Jobs is sorely missed and would agree with me. The current bozo running Apple is dumb as a sack of used cat litter.
The amount of labor per phone is peanuts compared to the retail price of an iphone whether made in the USA or by suicidal coolies.
The labor per phone I think is $16.00. If made in the USA you could probably double. That is per phone, per a $800.00 phone.
Your crazy. Google the cost of making an iphone. Labor per phone is $16.00 per phone. If made in the USA maybe double the labor cost so your 1,000 iphone is now $1,032. Big deal
Your point? Yes it may cost a little more to make them here, but so what? Apple does make huge sums of money but they will get a more stable environment and not be beholden to a communist regime who steals apple’s IP.
Actually apple wouldn’t have to raise prices. There is a supply and demand thing at work. If Apple could set whatever price they want then apple would set it at $1M each (or higher). So as they raise prices people don’t buy as many phones which cuts into their bottom line. But so what. Apple makes huge sums of money and can afford to build the product in the USA. At least for the phones they sell outside of Asia.
The feds have NO constitutional or legal say in where anybody buy or sells or makes anything.
The problem with Apple’s business model is that they need you to but a new phone every couple of years. That’s $500 and increasing every year for the rest of your life. That is a lot of $. Oh, and do this by planned obsolescence.
Right 100%. But the Constitution allows the feds to tariff any and all imports into the USA. Fact jack.
So if the President wants to threaten Apple with a tariff THAT IS HIS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT. And I am all for it!
