A Charlie Brown Christmas

When Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism that he sees amongst everyone during the Christmas season, Lucy suggests that he become director of the school Christmas pageant. Charlie Brown accepts, but is a frustrating struggle. When an attempt to restore the proper spirit with a forlorn little fir Christmas tree fails, he needs Linus’ help to learn the meaning of Christmas.

Stop posting this religious propaganda.

Charlie Brown and especially that Linus snip need to be punished and silenced for their anti-muslim, anti-Semitic hate speech.

Oh, /sarc

I like the fact there is a real Christian message in the Christmas show.

But, still think Peanuts are overrated. It is so depressing (including the Christmas tunes for this show are in minor, depressing key), and sad how Charlie Brown is treated. I like it OK, but it’s just too sad to be really great, especially for kids. Those other brats constantly haranguing on him, and his dog also making fun of him plenty.

It’s not a movie, it’s a show, or program.

I really don’t like lists mixing up TV programs like Rudolph (1 hr) and Frosty/CB (1/2 hr) with legit movies like Miracle on 34th street and Bishop’s Wife! Call it a pet peeve.

Did you never read the Peanuts comic strip. Schultz had very differing personality types through out. The music was wonderful.

Did you miss the message of love and salvation that it showed???

You are the Charlie Brown if this thread

Yes, I did. I read books of it. From the start on.

I watch all the specials. It just isn’t that funny, but sad mostly.

Different personalities who mostly pick on CB. I call that sad. Linus is the one redeeming feature as he is nice.

Look, I gave a contrary opinion, that is all. Nice of you to try to insult ME on Christmas.

Not insulting you. You claim Charlie is a downer. Which you certainly did

I think Charlie is amazing. He keeps at it no matter what. He still thinks people will keep their word. He may sound down but he really is an optimist. Not everyone pucks on Charlie after all Peppermint Patty and Marcie ?

The half hour show isn’t necessarily supposed to be hilarious. As with all Peanuts things it has a few laughs ,a few chuckles and food for thought

Go in peace

Sometimes the point of a show like this one is that a child can empathize with the character. Knowing you are not the only one that crap happens to can help a child grow.

Well, EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME!

I call it the Charlie Brown Christmas MOVIE.

I paid 10 bucks to buy it on Amazon. I don't pay $10 for "shows".

And it is the best Christmas MOVIE ever made.

It is so depressing (including the Christmas tunes for this show are in minor, depressing key),

My Granddaughter loves every song on the Christmas Album. She's 7 now but she has loved it since she was 2. Whenever we drive her somewhere she asks for it to be played no matter what month or season. It's always a Peanuts Christmas for her.

I never thought of the music of being being in a minor key, I guess it is. I'm not a musician but I do appreciate music in a minor key such as Beethoven's 9th Symphony in D Minor or Bach's Mass in B Minor.

A minor key is not necessarily depressing to me.

I purchased the album below as a young adult and it got me into jazz music in a big way. Not too long after that, I was buying Miles Davis and John Coltrane albums. It was a phase I went through.

When I was young I found the story sad because everyone was mean and picked on the Charlie Brown for no reason.

As an adult I see it a bit more troubling. They marked Charlie Brown as a loser and they all gang-uped on him.

As a child it was a bit upsetting. As an adult I ask myself how this storyline was even green-lighted.

But to tell a story of forgiveness and redemption you have to first tell the dark side of the story.

I still find it kind of sad but in the end Lucy and the gang discover they were mean to Charlie Brown and they all sing 'Hark, the Herold Angles Sing' and discover the joy of Christmas together.

I do get where you're coming from but it's a story about redemption so there has to be something the kids need to change about themselves.

The music follows the same kind of pattern. A bit sad at first but in the end joyful.

The first song, 'Christmastime is Here' is bitter sweet and evokes a sense of nostalgia.

I don't like most contemporary pop Christmas songs. I like traditional music that mentions Jesus and the actual meaning of Christmas (Silent Night, God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen). They were written by people who were celebrating Christ and not looking to cash in and sell albums.

But I do like this soundtrack.

But you didn’t pay even 25c at the time to see it in a theater, because it wasn’t a feature film.

Sorry, just nit-picking, no offense meant. I just don’t put short TV programs in the same category as full-length 2-reelers.

Well, I WAS Charlie Brown, always tortured and hated, mostly because I was too ugly for the other kids.

But yet, while I sympathize with him, it did not make me feel better.

Thanks. I just thought it was a weak attempt at an insult.

Yeah, Linus is nice and Marcie never does anything offensive, but Patty can be iffy. She likes him but will also lay him out.

Not all, but most. Most are always making fun of him or insulting him...I didn’t invite you to a party, etc. They don’t even try to hide it. Very arrogant.

It’s just sad.
